Ive Got a Question

Been wearing it the last few days as part of my rotation. Got home the other day and needed to remove the meat off the bone of a cooked ham. What the hell I figured. Had the knife on me and it was sharp. I like the Esky quite a bit and leave it flat, thin and light.

I carry the 14 every day. It sees a lot of use, some of it rough.

I like the look of that knife! Stripped and blued? Honestly I got the 11 and I love the bottle opener but the handle is just lost in my hand, and I have small hands. Just picked up some micarta handles to see if it will fill the void. Not sure about that one because the length is what I am missing.

This is probably the cardinal sin but I have to say that I have found very few knives that fit my hand as perfectly as the Izulu II. Knife just has perfect ergonomics for me personally.

You need both. The question is which first.

The Bk2 will be better for backpacking but too much knife for EDC in my opinion. I EDC a BK 14 and have done some light chopping, battoning with it and it would take care of you in the woods but you would work a lot harder than with a BK2.

I seem to not have the skill of opening beers with out the opener. Someone care to help out a poor dumb unskilled guy who can't get into his beer without his 11?

Alright, this is how you do it. Get a woman. Make her bring you a sandwich and said beer. If she is wanting to avoid another black eye, she will have opened the beer for you already. Rinse. Repeat.

(KIDDING!)

Grip the beer bottle as high up near the base of the cap as you can. Grip it tightly, then take a hard, flat object, and put the edge of it under the edge of the beer cap. Then press the item down. What you are doing is making a lever out of whatever object you use and your finger to push the cap off. It may take a few tries, but eventually you will get it. The flat rounded end of a BK14 will work, or a bic lighter, or a pen, or whatever you can wedge in there and get to work.

Great description, this is exactly what I do.

I do what you said but twist the knife to pry the "lips" of the cap up using my index finger as a fulcrum. On a small knife like the 14 you may have to do it a few times working your way around the cap to loosen a few of the "lips." With a machete I can pop them off in one shot and the cap goes flying.:D

As to bk-14 beer opening: pic-based tutorial thread or it didn't happen :D

As to the OP: I love my BK-14, it was my first Becker, too and I use it as much as possible. You can chop through a small branch with it, but IMO, chopping is best left to a bigger blade. I do baton with my '14 though, and it has never complained. solid little knife that's hard to put down.
