I have a vice for vises...Post vises that is!

I got this one a few weeks ago and finally have it cleaned up and photographed. I didn't find a company name on it, but a few stamps of "Warrantied" on the outside jaw. It looked like it had sat in a barn for 50 years, but a wire cup brush in an angle grinder dealt with that. It's not perfect, but it's the largest one in the shop...That's a 12" ruler leaned against it in the pic...Now I just need to figure out how to mount it.....

That a beauty Deker!

I've got a vice for vises as well. I need to post some pics I suppose.

What's that thing weigh? About 150? I've got a 6" that's not quite as beefy as that and it's right around 110 or so...maybe a bit more.

I just wish I had enough shop space to have a couple of the vises be "free standing" with about an 8' radius of free space around each one.

I have an 8" Rigid vise that I built a base for... it's a 220 pound vise with 435 lb. of base... but it's tucked into a corner... so its true potential is limited for now. :(

Only if its your second cousin. But if he were in Kentucky it would be a different story... :)

Nick,

I'm not sure of the weight. I didn't want to drag it into the house to put on the scale...Figured my wife wouldn't appreciate that ;) By best guess after moving it around a bit is that it's close to 200lbs. Certainly more than 150lbs.

I was in the process of building some new vise stands when I got this one. The other 2 are made from 8" square tube and 3/8" plate. I put some black pipe fittings on them so that I can fill them with liquid "ballast" to help weight them down, put leave them moveable if necessary. Now I've got to figure out a mounting for this beast. The mounting bracket covers 14"x16" or so. I'm thinking multiple square tubes on a base bolted to the floor. This one won't be moving around ;)

Hey deker, here's a pic of a pretty good looking method of mounting a post vise (with the exception of having to lop off the post). I borrowed the pic off of the site where Sam just bought his great looking anvil from (Hows that baby working for you Sam ? ;) ) I've got a post vise that looks alot like yours deker that I'm thinking about making a similar tripod for (with a little added weight).
