I've HAD IT with the US.

Another stupid Australian knee jerk vote gaining peice of legislation. The most common form of knife fatalities in this country occur in domestic violence situations and the kitchen knife is the culprit. Maybe they could introduce a licensing system including a phsycological test before purchasing your kitchen and steak knives.

I like their motto. Seems they forgot a word, though. I guess what they meant to say was "Victoria... The Place to be... From"

MPotter

"Legitimate sword owners understand the importance of ensuring that their swords do not fall into the wrong hands," Mr Haermeyer said.

Makes it sound as if they're nuclear warheads or something .

All I can say is THANK GOODNESS someone finally had the courage to step up and say "NO" to all the senseless drive-by-swordings, gang swordings, random swordings, and assorted other swordings that have been sweeping the civilized world.

Enough is enough and we should all be so lucky to live in Australia.

About the only good thing about Victoria are the roads out of it!

Like Stockman says, knee jerk vote grabbing stupidity from slimy politicians.

Hey when you don't have guns you got to use something.

As I understand it the legislation is not as harsh as originally intended thanks to many submissions by sword and knife orientated groups and individuals.
whilst I believe the legislation is harsh and tyranical it does overcome some of the inconsistencies in the law e.g it is illegal to own a 3" double edged knife in Victoria but it wasn't illegal to own a 4 foot double edged sword. Of course the problem is that sword sellers are going to have all this extra paper work with no recompense. Where the sword law is harsh and tyranical is that it covers swords that have not been sharpened or don't have an edge.

Gajinoz the problem with roads leading out of Victoria is that they lead to NSW and SA whose knife laws are more harsh and tyranical than Victorias.

Yeah, OK, maybe I was a little harsh. It's really only Melbourne I have a problem with.

Well, if you want to get right down to it, I wouldn't want to live anywhere where I can see my neighbours house!

Yeah! when we first moved to "the farm" we couldn't see another house then civilisation encroached. Bah humbug!

The easy way to overcome the inconsistencies in those laws would be to make it legal to own a 3" double edged knife. :D

Esav, I'm not sure you quite comprehend the minds of our home grown politicians. Maybe yours are different, I don't know but logic and common sense rarely play a part in decisions they make, especially during an election year when they sway backwards and forwards like a palm tree in a cyclone depending on which vocal minority is shouting the loudest.

Unholy ****, what's that? I'm all in favour of weapon regulation (not prohibition) but that is just plain nonsense. What kinds of swords are they talking about that youths "arm" themselves with? Crap. Next thing they will ban machetes and people living or hiking in the bush will have to make do with a nail clipper. I still think highly of the country but that is just :barf: .

Why, what kind of regulation would you like? How about we don't ban swords, tactical folders, balisongs, kitchen knives, or sharpened pencils. Let's ban stabbing people, instead.

But don't you all realise that if you ban guns and knives and swords then criminals will never get hold of them and people will never be murdered.

I post this here knowing that you guys will keep this on the forum and under your hat.
Any credit card or like object can easily be made into two 4 inch pointed, edged weapons capable of incapacitating a person in seconds. You can take a credit card anywhere. The kneejerk folks will have a field day if this gets used in some major attack. Keep this tidbit to yourself ;)
