I've HAD IT with the US.

I'm all in favour of weapon regulation (not prohibition)

I don't get it. Why??

Where does personal responsibility come in?

Sorry if this stirs the pot, but I simply do not comprehend this logic!

I wonder what is going to happen to all those samurai swords the Aussie vets brought back from World War II?

The problem isn't Victoria, or Melbourne (in fact Melbourne is one of my favourite cities and regualrly gets voted one of the best, most liveable cities in the world) The core of the problem is fact that the politician/human ration is way too high in Oz. We have too many of these hogs waddling up to the trough, making us one of the most taxed and over-governed countires in the world.

20 Million people? There is almost that many in California and they just have a governor - we have 4 layers of government for the same amount of people.

Kives, bike helmets, guns, mandatory imobilisers - they are all just politicians finding ways to justify themselves, their salaries and their massive retirement funds.

Liars and hypocrites at best, many no better than thieving corrupt scum.

Certainly makes you want to vote later this year doesn't it Ming!

If everybody behaved in a responsible manner, now that would be a point. But they don't. For now, let's just say that a ban on stabbing people sounds like a pretty good idea to me. :D
I see why I shouldn't stab people, but why shouldn't I own a sword? It has hardly become the weapon of choice for gang wars and petty criminals, has it?

Swords - unfortunately it has become "popular" amongst those individuals who run "amok" - maybe because they couldn't get a gun. Now they won't get a sword - what will they turn to? Axes? Where does it stop for the legislators? Maybe they should be putting the funds they invest in "anti" legislation to mental health facilities etc. People and the media only see the end result "man runs amok with sword" they don't want to know why or how he ended up in such a state as to take such drastic action.

Within a society you will find a range of behavior patterns. Some of them derive from normal biological adaptations for the advancement of the species or the tribe, strength and ferocity in defense or hunting. Some patterns are counterproductive in peacetime in a modern society, where more finesse is appropriate. We will always have a problem treating people for mental aberrations who aren't really aberrant, just misplaced, in time or space.

As we used to say when we were kids: "Ya wanna fight? -- Join the Marines!" :)

I personally think they should ban those retractable pens. All it takes is for some crazed lunatic to be walking down the street, whips out his pen, thumbs down the little button on the end and slams the point into somebody's ear.

Ban pens I say.

This all boils down the the problems inherent with the philosophy of making objects illegal instead of sticking with laws against immoral or harmful actions. After all the things are illegal, the next realm is thoughts.
