Every year for my birthday, me being as picky as I am, my parents give me cash to get a new knife. It's normally a $75-$100 fixed blade as I've never seen the point in going over that for a knife that would be a user.

As some of you know, my father just passed on sat., my birthday. My mom did something that will burn in my memory for the rest of my life when she put my birthday card into my fathers hand and told me he wanted me for a minute (he had been in a coma).

So I sat around yesterday trying to decide how to honor my fathers memory with my money. I wanted something that would last my lifetime and could be passed to one of my kids with the story of how it was the last thing Poppop gave to me the day he died. It needed to be special.

After much deliberation, I contacted Derrick at KSF and ordered a Bark River Fox River in green micarta with hollow pins.

I know alot of you guys don't think that much of spending $150 bucks on a knife but My dad would have had a corinary had he known how much most of my knives cost, and they were never over a hundred.

He carried a Buck every day of his life, and they were "very good" knives to him. And they are, but to each their own.

So now I'm a Barkie fan I guess. Tonym's passaround is what did it. I haven't even seen the Magnum yet but have been excited to get it and just feel as though that knife is on another level than what I'm used too. Like driving Ford escorts all you life and someone gives you the keys to a BMW and tells you to take it for a spin.

I think my dad would secretly want one, all the while saying how it wasn't worth more than one of his Bucks.

I think a lot of spending 150 for a knife. I think it is cool that you are getting this one. I hope it is everything you wanted.

Cool. Nothing wrong with spending $150 on a knife I hope. A lot of us are trying to break even on this hobby. Its expensive, and it takes a lot of time per knife. $150 for a knife is a good price.

Barkies are great knives.
The price seemed high to me as well, until I got mine and used it.
They're worth it.

Fox River rocks. One of the most versatile and capable knives in their line-up.

This could be said for ANY knife out there, and it is in a signature of a man's on another forum...you never know the value of a knife until you use it. That is the truest statement.

Enjoy it. :D

Perhaps get your Dads name engraved on it. Might make it that much more special.

Very cool and very honoring to your Dad!

You now have a knife that, for both practical and sentimental reasons, will bring you joy for the rest of your life! How very good that your Dad shared his appreciation of a "good knife" with you - and I think you probably read him right about secretly admiring your knife!

Nice story and I like the idea of having it engraved. Hope you enjoy your new knife. Take care.

You made a great choice. Steel lasts forever, so you have a very nice family heirloom to pass on, and a story to go with it, and the ability for your father to live on through them both.

Again, sorry for your loss brother, and enjoy your new blade! j

Thats awesome bro! Your gonna love it.

Here 1 next to some blades I believe you have met!

Thanks for that Tony. I was wondering about the size comparo with an RC4.

The RC is my ass kicking, name taking knife. I can beat the hell out of it and not feel bad.

The Barkie will be my "sunday gone to meetin'" knife, not that it can't take it, just that I want to keep her purty.

My deepest sympathies to you bro...I lost my dad in feb. and I know the emptiness well. I think it's awesome that you want to honor your dad's memory with a knife....I do that myself. Use it in good health and remember him often...Jim

Andy, please don't take my statements the wrong way. Custom and handmade knives are in a totally different realm and the pricing of them is totally different than that of factory knives.

You put your own blood, sweat and tears into your knives and you deserve to command a much higher premium for them than a factory thats pumping out stamped blades.

Sorry, I hope I didn't offend you.

you sound in better spirirts today Shotgunner, again, sorry for your loss.

GREAT choice on the barkie!
