This may be old news to some of yall, I think this has been around the firearm community for a couple months by now and I had heard about it but never saw pictures til tonight. Holy crap.

It's the Rossi M92 Ranch Hand. 12in barrel, 24in overall, 6 shots .357/.38, .44 mag, 45 colt.

It's legal because it meets the ATFs qualifications for a pistol rather than a rifle (havent really read all the legal stuff so I dont really know how that is)

Anyway it is seriously cool, and its msrp is around $530 so it wont be expensive. I could definitely see this as a truck gun or even some sort of survival type rifle (for something bigger than squirrels)

More info is here: http://www.americanrifleman.org/ArticlePage.aspx?id=2447&cid=1

I heard someone say it wont be out til October/Nov. 2010. I should start saving (even though my AR isnt done yet).

What do yall think?

Those have been around forever. Talk to CricketDave, he has experience. Puma makes one too... the general term for those shorty lever pistols is a "Mere's Leg". I guess the action is pretty choppy though... As featured in "Zombieland."

No idea why they put sights on this little beast. The sawn off butt would makes "hip shots" real easy. It would be great fun but completely illegal in the part of the world I live in. It would also be magic as a bail gun when hunting pigs with dogs. The short barrel would be great to carry through tight stuff on the way to a bail, and once you got there nice and handy. I think the dogs may need hearing protection though as the muzzle blast would be interesting. Cheers Jake!

It'd sure make a good alternative to a shotgun or black powder for short range areas. CrcketDave says it's not practical to work it single handed... at least it'd be easy to pack. They must have quit making these and decided to restart production, because they show up on Gunbroker all the time. I bet you can find one right now.

lol man i sold my last 44 mag but i am gonna have to buy one of these. thats a awesome little back woods/ pack gun

IIRC, Puma was the model name for the Rossi version of the 1892 - back before Taurus bought them out.
I personally have found the 92 action to be less "choppy" and much more smooth than a Winchester 94 action.
OTOH, I agree a shared caliber carbine & pistol makes a great woods combo.

That gun is on the cover of my July American Rifleman magazine and I can't get my mind off of it. If the reviews come out good, I may have to replace my Marlin 30/30 truck gun with one!

I don't seem to understand-you guys are talking as if this is the first release of the gun-it isn't. They've been out for a very long time. Rossi has made them in the past, you can find reviews anywhere.

I recall seeing a piece like that in an old spaghetti western, I think it was "Once Upon A Time In The West" with Charles Bronson, been a while, my memories' fuzzy but definitely been around for some time

On a side note, in the Magnificent Seven tv series Eric Close's character uses something like this as a side arm, it's got a cool factor about it but I dunno about real life accuracy shooting from the hip :)

there was an old tv show called "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE" starring Steve McQueen. He carried one in that. :)

You are absolutely correct. There is one is the famous opening scene of my favorite western of all time "Once Upon a Time in the West".

Interesting, but Taurus.:barf:

Looks cool, but I have just never been very impressed with Taurus.

I agree been burned once by taurus , never again :D

I'm a S&W man myself. I have owned a few Taurus revolvers in years past. They had rough, gritty actions. But recent ones that I have handled in gun shops were much smoother, close to S&W or better in some cases. If you haven't tried a newer one, you might be surprised.

I just watched that about 3 days ago, and your right. Actor Woody Strode has one in the opening scene where he and Jack Elam and another guy got taken out be Charles Bronson.

The most awesome useless toy ever. :D It graced the cover of American Rifleman right along with it’s brother the Taurus Judge Carbine, called the Circuit Judge or something. I’ll be sure to add both of those to my LOL list with a plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. As handy as an AR or AK pistol. At least it will give one more “Hey now THIS is what you need to carry” comment at a gun show.

Since the sawed off rifle shoots cartridges that a revolver can shoot, why not just get a revolver? I'll admit, the Wanted Dead or Alive "pistol" looks cool, but I just can't see it doing anything a good long barrel revolver couldn't do in a more compact package.
