For my next purchase I'm planning on getting one of these three:

Para-Military
Mini-Manix
ATR

The knife will accompany my SE Dodo and do everything from whittling to slicing rope to preparing food. Weight isn't a consideration but something that doesn't take up to much pocket space is nice. Which one would preform the best for the tasks? Could comparison pictures please be provided?

If I've missed any good ones please let me know. Your help is much
appreciated.

I thought I forgot one. Your right that probably is the best choice.

I'm no pro photographer, but here are a couple of pix. I don't have a Caly3, but the UKPK pictured is the same size.

Thanks, yablonowitz. Those pictures help me out a lot. By the way those look like their users:thumbup: . The Para-Military appeals to me the most so far.

You are welcome. All my knives are users. I don't know how all these people keep their knives looking so pristine. Mine are usually scratched in about an hour, sometimes less.

SIRGALANT: I will have to find a dealer to handle one. The Mini-Manix might be something I buy after a Para-Military. I say this since reading Cliff's review of the Para-Military made it love at first sight. I'm sure my fellow Spyder-bretheren would know how I feel;) .

Just one picture of the Mini Manix/Caly3/Para. By the end of the month, I will have an ATR to add:) :) .

I would go with mini manix because of its backlock. If the blade got accidentally openned a little bit, the spring of backlock will kick it back while compression lock won't.

para and mini-manix both are great knives... It's such a pitty that spyderco makes their blades a tad longer than 3".

The para seems like the clear choice to me. Compression/liner/framelocks (cross locks in general) tend to be much easier to keep clean.

I don't see how you can go wrong with any G-10 fully flat ground Spyderco. Seriously, the Caly III is great, the Mini-Manix is a little brute and the Para is a top seller for Spyderco for a reason.

I would pass on the ATR only because I like full flat ground blades. The Para II will be comming out soon so maybe you may want to wait and get the improved version. IMHO there is some room for improvement on this model. The Mini-Manix is a nice knive but if you don't need the bulk or strength, go with the Calypso III. If size and weight are not a big issue (they always are), the Mini-Manix is a good choice. In fact, for such a stout knife, it does carry well.

I think that waiting for the Para 2 will be my best option cuz' as said it has room for improvement. Hopefully it will use Green G-10.

Waiting is kind of boring, may be you should get Caly3 for now and then you will know for sure if you need Para.
Good luck
