I've noticed many of you like to put kit onto your knife sheaths, why not your belt?

Heya Forum-Folks!

I was just looking at pictures of various knife set-ups, and I came to think..."Why don't they carry stuff on their belts?"
Of course, this led to yet ANOTHER question...what sorts of belts do you guys/gals come to prefer? I like a good, well-made
leather m'self. It seems to me that, while you can carry doo-dads attatched to your knife, why not simply carry them on the
belt itself? Now, the firesteel loop on kydex sheaths makes alot of sense, just the same as piggybacking a smaller knife.

Have fun with it, and pics WILL be enjoyed! I would say pics are REQUIRED but then I'd prolly not get any...lol.

I carry various items in pouches on my belt.

I mostly use High Speed Gear Inc. or Tactical Tailor pouches, but I've also used some from various other companies.

An HSGI mini radio pouch for me carries a miniature fixed blade and a folder, compass/whistle (these usually go around my neck as soon as the pouch goes on my belt), fire-making items, signal mirror, cord, water treatment, a miniature first aid kit, and a miniature fishing kit.

Another pouch or two can carry snacks, water, more significant first aid items, tarp/raingear/socks, etc. (when no pack is carried).

:-)

That's what I like to do. Use my cargo pockets and belt. I think a fixed-blade with a small piggyback and a firesteel is the way to go with that, myself. :-)

I carry a knife "kit" on one side & usually a canteen on the other. The knife kit itself is a tertiary set up. It's basically what I need to get out of the woods if I lost my pack and most of my pocket contents.

Here's a pic of the sheath I set up 2 nights ago...

Swamp Rat Ratmandu with black paper micarta in a Mashed Cat Kydex sheath & an Esee pouch tacked on with Chicago screws. I've had this knife hangin' in my safe for goin' on 3 years and I haven't give it the life it deserves. I'm almost ashamed I ain't beat on it propperly but that's about to change! I really like addin' these pouches on my kydex sheaths! They're not terribly expensive & real handy since they're made to go on a sheath. They fit most of my knives in the 4-7" range too.

I can see the attraction of that kind of setup but it's not for me either. I don't like to have a lot of stuff/weight on my belt. If I wear a fixed blade it would be just the knife and sheath. An edc folder and some emergency gear gets put into my pockets but it's the bare essentials. Everything else gets put into my pack.

I like the pouch setup for camping/bushcrafting, not so much for edc. For camping/hiking, I think it would be nice to have all your sharpworks and accouterments in one package, but for EDC, I just carry my fixed blade by itself, or rigged up with a stone, but usually I have something in my pockets for sharpening.

Here is my first sheath I made, for my Fallkniven F1, with a DC3 stone rigged up w/shockcord. Going camping tom, this is what I am (mainly ) taking. (Also 2 Bark Rivers to play around with!)

it consolidates space on my belt while also meaning i dont have to remember as many pockets for as many things. A,B,C,D can all be in the same pocket (in this case a knife sheath)

Generally I don't add much to my knife "kits" because it tends to get bulky. Usually I keep a fire steel , and on occasion some sort of small sharpening stone like a DMT stone (The keychain ones) or a dc3.

I keep my usual basic items (folding knife, nail clippers, small flashlight, keys and wallet) in my pockets and all the major stuff goes in a pack.

My knife kit is the only thing on my belt when I'm wearing a pack. I don't like a lot of heavy or bulky stuff in my cargo pockets, but a few items are fine. It really depends on what I'm doing and what type of pack I'm using. As for belts used, I've been using the synthetic Liger belts as they're water proof and pretty tough...built as a gun belt.

it gets in the way of my backpack's waist straps.

^ This. I rarely even have my fixed blade on my belt when I'm backpacking, if.its a heavy load the waist belt is on and the knife is in my pack. I have some baldric and drop leg sheaths for certain knives and I reach for those when necessary.

Because its half as cool and twice as useful there. Bear Grylls drinks piss when he could be drinking cold water from the camera crew, its more bad ass!

Hmmm..blech..I really just can't see someone drinkin' piss and keeping it down.. Warm, salty, and foamy! When you have a thirst and an empty bottle...Piss! Some say it's better than nothing..Piss! It's yellow, it's mellow, it's twangy, and zangy! Piss!

My main camp/survival knife is a Fallkniven A1. I'm glad I opted for the Zytel sheath instead of the wide, thick leather one because I found that a Maxpedition pistol magazine pouch fits perfectly around it. I've always been a firm believer in having a multi-tool with you and this setup ensures that I will always have my knife, a multi-tool (in this case a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit) and a firesteel on my person even if I get separated from my pack.

I have a couple of knife sheath pouch kits I made up, but they rarely get used. My use for them is for a grab-and-go with survivial essentials when I don't have my normal daypack or backpack around, or just want to travel as light as possible. They contain stuff for water storage and treatment, fire-making, spare contact lenses, space blanket, compass, and a flashlight. One kit is based on a Busse CABS and the other on a Fallkniven S1.

Mine both have large size TekLok clips for attachment. I normally wear very sturdy 1.5" nylon web or bridle leather belts.

Hi all,

First of you guys have some neat kit for your knife sheaths. Great job on that.

JV3, and hardtripper, You mentioned that your knife gets in the way of your pack belt.

By having your knife sheath with a dangler type set up will take care of that. Your knife will sit lower on your belt around your waist and then your pack belt will wrap around you like it would with your knife on. but with the danger set up and you can have different danger lengths made. Like in the pic below.

If you have never tried a dangler set up. Give it a try they are awesome.
