I've noticed many of you like to put kit onto your knife sheaths, why not your belt?

Hi all,

First of you guys have some neat kit for your knife sheaths. Great job on that.

JV3, and hardtripper, You mentioned that your knife gets in the way of your pack belt.

By having your knife sheath with a danger type set up will take care of that. Your knife will sit lower on your belt around your waist and then your pack belt will wrap around you like it would with your knife on. but with the danger set up and you can have different danger lengths made. Like in the pic below.

If you have never tried a danger set up. Give it a try they are awesome.

yup, i'm in the process of making a dangler setup for my fallkniven s1. the thread title says belt (i'm assuming pants belt) so i'm still not going to attach various pouches to it because of my backpack's waist straps. plus, a bunch of pouches with danglers on my pants belt i'd look like an octopus :p

edit: my adjustable sheath dangler write-up...not sure where to post this here but i have a thread on the esee diy forum.

i didn't want to use a fixed length dangler setup because my backpacks have different waist belt widths and i want to minimize the flop.

you can put a stopper at the opposite side of the belt loop if you want.

kevlar thread from countycomm: http://www.countycomm.com/kevlar.html.

with my pack with the widest waist belt this is the minimum dangler length so it doesn't get in the way:

without a backpack on, i can shorten it by 3"...that extra 3" would be very floppy if i went with a fixed length dangler.

i didn't put a stopper at the end of the strap so i can completely remove the male buckle and leave the strap on my belt when i sleep...for me it's more convenient than removing my belt and all that.

Thanks for the idea JV3! Looks like I'll be making a dangler for my A1 now. Do you get your strap material from countycomm too?

you're welcome! the strap came from campmor in the climbing section. it's way overkill obviously but it was the only 1" wide strap i had laying around.

The reason I like stuff on the sheath, is it's less stuff to take off and on my belt. I can leave it attached to the sheath, so it's only one thing on and off, not several. I guess it's just easier. I have taken stuff on my belt before, but that takes more time to put on and take off.

I prefer to have 'kit' on my knife for, as others have said--consolidation...a knife might not be the only 'hardware' taking up real estate on the belt. I also like that should something happen and you get separated from your pack, or if-heaven forbit some critical incident happens and you've only got a second to grab something, and you grab your knife, you've got a few chosen items to deal with whatever situation you're faced with.

I like the SpecOps brand...good quality for the price, serviceable, decent pocket size, normally not as rough on coatings/finish/handles as some fitted kydex, readily available.

Belt-wise, I've been using my old 1 1/2" Kramer Horsehide belt for probably coming up on 15 years...it doesn't show any signs of slowing...tho I do have a Wilderness Instructor belt that could fill in if the weather was looking particularly wet/nasty. I do believe in investing in a proper/stiff load bearing belt.

YMMV,

:-) This has been interesting to read! I enjoyed the pictures. Hmmm, lol...I actually do both, myself, although really it's just a flashlight attatched with my multitool. :-)
