Dear Dan,

Thanks for the quick reply, I remember that it took a long time last
time but it was worth the wait. The bone handle is being soaked 2 times
a year in mineral oil to keep it from drying out and is wearing fine. It
actually is developing its own character and turning darker, kinda like
ivory does. I like it a lot. I am having this knife made as a
replacement for the 1st as my daughter wants me to give it to her for my
grandson someday. He is 5 and liv."..........

this was butcher shop cow shin bone I cleaned and dryed here..the only thing that has ever treated it, is the mineral oil...
 
Ever thought about trying Nelsonite?

I've heard that some makers have had great success with it, although I haven't yet tried it myself...
 
M/O has been my stand by for years. I have been told that Hoof Mender picked up at just about any feed store, works well. Mike
