ivory and chemicals

I know that mammoth ivory is very sensitive to water but how about other chemicals? I normally clean off excess epoxy with a damp cloth. Would I be better off using alcohol or acetone? How about using some thing other than water for a base if I try to stain it? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated, I can't really afford to experiment a lot to find out. Thanks.

you dont have to worry about a little water or anything else.....soaking it in water is a no no...but sticking it in there to cool it off is no big deal....I know someone is going to tell me im wrong....but I wouldnt worry about it....ivory is strong stuff with very fine pores.....it doesnt just get water inside it by a casual dunk....
