Just got this one done today. Handle is some nice interior mammoth ivory from Mark Knapp that I checkered.
Just a hair under 10 inch Blade of Aldo's 1084 with an etched finish. 15 3/16" overall.
Heat colored copper spacer with coin edged nickel silver accent.
Guard is textured mild steel.
Nut at the butt is steel, heat blued and textured.
Mass is just about 1/2 ounce under a pound, and the balance point is right at the plunge.

All comments and critique welcome.

I'm usually not a fan of coffin handles, but this I really like. Style and finish is really great.

Holy Crap Darcy that thing is fantastic! If I ever get a chance to get one of your knives I want it to be like this!!

I too am not much for coffin handles for the most part, but that baby is sweet! The heat colored copper really works nicely with the ivory.
How is mammoth ivory to checker?

Amazing knife!!!! very sleek, indeed you gave a new life to the coffin handle style. Material and finishes compliments each other in a very balanced package.
As for elegance...you see a bowie but you feel a dagger within. :)

If is not too late (epoxy wise) i would have tryied a tiny copper washer under the final... maybe it's just perfect as is.

Fit/Finish looks superb and I like the long and sleek overall profile, however to my eye your very elegant handle and checkering clashes
with the more primitive look of the remainder of the knife. To me, a wood or stag handle would have more complemented your overall design.

A bit more effort than walnut as you might imagine. Might be a good excuse to buy carbide checkering tools..........otherwise, it was solid and consistent in texture, so not bad that way.........tended to gum up the needle files a tad when pointing up the diamonds. Thanks for the comments.

Kevin,
I was sort of expecting that response from somebody. I would tend to agree, but for the fact that I have been mixing the styles long enough now that my eye has acquired a taste for it. I think a lot of the time knife styles tend to stay one way because that's the way we are used to seeing them, so it just looks right. In hand, this blade actually has a fair bit of shine, and is not quite the contrast between the old and the new that the pictures would suggest. I appreciate the perspective and thanks very much for commenting.:)

Thanks everyone,
Darcy

What kind do you have now? Which would you recommend? I spent a good amount of time looking at the various options before an assingment in Canada (Calgary) made the issue moot. Wouldn't mind following up on that idea now that I'm back in the shop in Texas.

Love the knife too, though I tend to side with Kevin.

Love Coffin handles... a great style for a real fighter!

Wonderful work
