Ivory Coffin handle bowie.

What kind do you have now? Which would you recommend? I spent a good amount of time looking at the various options before an assingment in Canada (Calgary) made the issue moot. Wouldn't mind following up on that idea now that I'm back in the shop in Texas.

Love the knife too, though I tend to side with Kevin.

I just have Gunline brand checkering tools that I bought from Brownell's , but you can get carbide cutters for them or the other brand........Dem-Bart IIRC. This was done 22 LPI, and would have been a lot easier at 18LPI. If you have not done any checkering, get the lower line count ones to start with and a few of the needle files for pointing up the diamonds, they tend to get dulled after not too long working with harder materials.
I have never used the carbide tools so can't make any recommendations there, but they should stay sharp much longer.

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Mark and AVigil.

Love the textured guard alongside the as-forged flats. Handle is subtle, beautiful--looks comfortable, enhanced by a very impressive checkering job. I think the higher-end touches elevate the knife without losing its ancient, organic appeal. Just a top-drawer piece all around. Would love to own that.

The nagging little voice in the back of my mind keeps yapping that the almost rustic look of the blade and fittings, the mixed textures and antiquing, SHOULD clash really hard with the elegant handle shaping and carefully refined checkering. In this case though, that little voice is just DEAD WRONG.

To my mind, this knife is an absolutely beautiful paradox! It makes me rethink concepts that I believed were already sorted out, filed away and were pretty much just set in stone long ago...at least as far as my own tastes are concerned. If the true purpose of art is to make people stop and think, then this is definitely art in my book...it hits that nail right on the head in a major way for me. A wonderful blending of themes that usually seem diametrically opposed to one another. Thank you for sharing this Darcy, I need to see more like it. Outstanding work!!!

Thanks for the detailed replies guys, it is very much appreciated.
