My Mom arrived yesterday and absconded with my L-UDT, in a heartbeat. You saw the pix.An art major couldn`t resist.I deputised her so that she can carry it here but I want it back. What can you do with a 1920 MOD.? Have I lost it forever? Can I get another?

------------------

Of course you have not lost it. All you have to do is to get her something more appealing to trade. Of course if your tastes are similar making the trade could be difficult.

You may have to think long term here - inheritance!

Ouch...

Oh yeah, sorry to be off-topic, but I couldn't seem to find HI's website. Can anybody help me out here?

Ghost, you reminded me of a cousin whose son lived in another state, was visiting her, and spotted a 2" round butt 22/32 kit gun at the local gun shop, ran home and dragged mom down there ( this was about 15 - 20 years ago ). She went with him, looked it over, opened up her purse and bought the thing ( kid didn't want to say anything in case giving her the money in front of the dealer made it look like what's now called a "straw man" deal ). They got home, he fondled it, and then said: "Here mom, let me pay you back right now." She replied: "You don't have to pay me, just give me back MY gun." I later put 4 of 6 into a gallon milk jug at a hundred yards offhand with it. Should have been 5 out of 6, but I missed one because I was laughing so hard after making the first shot.

The things we have to put up with for family.
My dad adopted a few of my treasures, but I still had visitation rights though. Wish he was still around to swipe one of my HI's.

You only have one mom and one dad. Be kind to them while they are with you. You are a good boy, ghost.

Thanks, Cliff! I'll go check it out, as I'm just new around this forum.

Forgot to check out Uncle Bill's profile, as I was busy searching for information in the BF Links, but couldn't find any.

And you are a great Uncle, Uncle Bill! Enjoyed reading your posts, and I can see why people here love you so much. It's that personal touch.

Dan, many thanks for your kind words. If you need any help finding your way around let us know.

Hi Dan.
Glad you found your way over here!!! Guys, I know personaly that Dan is one of us.Heck of a great guy that likes all kinds of knives. I have been telling him how great Uncle Bill and his H.I.Kuhkuri's are.

Now to get him fixed up with a Ang Khola of his size to start with. Of course since he lives where some of the worlds greatest knife stories are from he may like a Sirupati.
I am kinda partial to the 18" A.K. Like nobody cain't tell.
All he needs to do is just buy one to become infected with HIKV though.

Uncle Bill, kind words are meant for kind people like you.

Yvsa - Actually, I just browsed through the website of HI, and I would like to start out with the 12" versions first, then upgrade to bigger ones later. Of course, I would have to find out if they are "importable" here in my country.
smile.gif
Of course, I'll have to save up for one, first.. hehehehe.. If I do get a couple, most of it will be for my dad, as he's the one who loves fixed blades, and large ones, too. It's my dad who started me out on all these. I'm sure he'll love those Khukuris.

Perhaps we should resist the temptation to decorate our weapons.Of course, we are not going to do that, and no one in history ever has.Our weapons are who we are.Women see them as cute.I must confess a love for a fully engraved SAA with Ivory stocks. My MOD.66,1911 and 29 are engraved with Steve Herret grips. There are others. They will never be worth less than what I paid for them;dinged as they may be.They beat my IBM stock.Plus,I can use them. What good is a piece of paper that says that you have money? With a weapon, you can always get money.

------------------

I have long avoided "fancy" tools mainly because I thought it was just wrong. However that was because what I was seeing was decoration that grossly impared function so of course it was not something I liked overly well. But the engraving that HI does and other such work doesn't effect the ability of the tools to work and as Ghostsix says above it just makes them better.

Err.. Ghostsix, you're terribly wrong. I'm not a balisong expert, hehehe..

I just come from the country where balisongs are everywhere!

Cliff, seeing as how you use your tools,I can see your point.I have a Browning Superposed from 1955.It has some dings but it is still a work of art.I hate every new scratch but would not have it any other way. When you look at tools as weapons, you see them as an extention of yourself, and you deserve the best.In fact, you cannot afford less.Warrior attitude. We have always embellished our weapons. They are us.They tell the world who we are.My farmer relatives see guns as tools.Just like a spade, less than a favorite double bitted axe. They usually engrave neither.I have seen some examples. The guy had time on his hands.

One of the things I often hear is, "it's too pretty to use." Beauty can often put us in a quandry.
