Cold Steel managed to do a huge disfavor to the knife community in Germany with their booth and presentation.
It has made negative press beyond the knife community over here, making it into regular newspapers.
Doing sparring on booth and displaying martial uses of knives and advertising them as offensive and defensive weapons is not appreciated over here.

So Germany really HAS lost its nuts. What a shame.

Yet I can go to the knife store and buy an auto there are 30 plus states you can do that in.

The point is that if we are trying to sell a knife is a tool showing off you skillz with a big bad blade isn't the way to go about it. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should particularly at a show that isn't expressly about knives.

That's a shame.

How many years has Cold Steel gone to this show? And how long has Cold Steel marketed much of their lineup as weapons or SD tools? It's not exactly like they hide these things, there are probably about 1,000 YouTube videos expressing these ideas, not to mention their own website. This should not have been a surprise to those who attend or run the show. No need to stand there watching the offensive sparing or advertising, if you don't like it just move on. There are plenty of other manufacturers that would have a hissy fit if it were ever suggested that knives could be used a weapons for attendees to look at. Just saying...

Cold Steel's been doing that at IWA for years.

Cold Steel has been promoting the "knives are weapons too" view since the start.

That would make 37 years now!

Thanks for the vid, Pizis. I grabbed a pic of the SR1 spine. Looks nice and beefy!

Sorry, my comment was directed at those who were upset about Cold Steel promoting weapons at the show. My comments were probably out of line, but it put me in a foul mode or for some reason.

No worries, my reply was aimed at the same people. I was wondering why this was suddenly an "issue" when CS has been doing the same thing in the same location for many years now. I'm guessing there was someone (perhaps a media person) there this year for the first time who got upset by CS's display and made a stink about it, but who knows?

Cold Steel has been doing the same thing at shows they attend for many many years. It is part of their identity and who they are. Knives are tools, no matter if the use is work, recreation, or SD. Cold Steel has never been accused of being PC, and I for one, am glad of that. Their products are designed by users for users, whatever that use may be, and at affordable price points. I have never understood how or why the whole "politically correct" concept ever came to be.

^govt policies and attitudes and Hollywood peer pressure has affected folks more than they realize.
getting into conspiracy though aint i.:)

So was Boker displaying at the IWA show? How were they marketing these, as robust butter knives?

I understand your point, vilePossum, but I think it's disingenuous to accuse Cold Steel of somehow poisoning the well for Germany's knife community. Can you name a single knife company that doesn't make, market, and sell models designed strictly for combat?

The venerable and wholesome Case?

The saintly Victorinox?

Wenger?

Kabar?

Give me a break. Just because a newspaper prints it, it's not news that knives can be used as weapons. As others have pointed out here, Cold Steel has never shied away from that fact. From the very beginning, Cold Steel's message has basically been, "If you need a knife you can bet your life on, try one of ours." While their product line is tremendously diverse, their market isn't collectors.

P.S. - AF, thanks for the video!
