What do y'all prefer as a companion knife to the larger blades in the esee lineup?

i actually just got me an Izzy 2...badaaasss littl knife, thank u Mr. dobbs.

btw hows that pack treatin ya?

Depends on what larger blade and for what purpose and environment.

For EDC I would choose an izula (or II) and a 3. Not sure where you are going or doing, though.

II takes up little space and is a great small knife. The 3 takes up more space but can get a serrated version. I'd probably go serrated 3 if I was carrying a 5, 6 or Junglas....unless one of those were serrated. I'd then maybe go with a II.

If you have the room to clip a 3 molleback onto something the space issue would be resolved. Izula or Izula II fits in pocket very easily without noticing it much.

I love both and I used to always answer this question 3--period. Then I got the Izula II and now I prefer the Izula II as my companion knife. I don't dislike the 3 by any means, it is still a great knife and I use it often, but I use my 6 for the big tasks and I wear the Izula II as a neck knife outside of my coat as the 6's companion.

+1 for the 3. Its on my belt almost every day(izula when I'm on shift). Great slicer, thin enough for skinning or detail work, etc. I've edc'd much more expensive "super steel" knives and I keep coming back to my 3mil.

I gotta get me an Izula II and another 3. I haven't used my RAT Pack 3 yet and probably won't use my RP Izula II either since I'd want to keep them as gifts for my future kids (if I have any!). I have a hard time using special editions, heck I have a hard time using some regular editions!

I dont have an Izula..... my girl does, a pink one :) I have a 3. Izula still rocks, but 3 is slightly thinner and longer. Depends on how u wanna use it.

The 3 is a real knife. The izula is for when you can't carry a real knife.
Don't get me wrong. I've got an izzy or five with me most times. But it's got it's limitations. As a large knife companion, I like the three. The three Also edcs well

I like my Izula II. It's almost perfect for lightweight backpacking in terms of space taken and weight. I dare say the 3 doesn't take up much more space either though!

I think i will first get a 2 (for price mainly) for a temporary companion and stand alone when i need a small knife (comp. bag etc) that is light, but doesn't need to be as small as a 1, and a 3 later for a more permanent companion to my soon to arrive Junglas and stand alone when i need a smaller knife that can do more than the 2 and i have more room (backpack possibly, knowing i will need a knife, trail hiking (no need to have any wood processing ability here, and i will be setting up a tent)). I will probably get an izula 1 and possibly scales for it at some point in here too.

I don't get it, i had resisted getting one esse for a while when it was still RAT, I remember when the izzy one came out, and I order one on an occasion, now i have a sudden desperate desire/need for three more in the immediate future!:eek::p

so my current "need to get list" is Izzy 2/Manix 2/ then ESEE 3, and Izzy 1 (not necessarily in that order)

If I had to pick,I'd go with my 3,for the wider thinner blade. It's a better cutter slicer.

The 3's thinner blade makes it a better all arounder I think. The sheath is amazing. The handle shape is also a bit better I think as well, plus even with its thinner stock its one very sturdy knife. I tend to think the 3 is the best of the line up, but YMMV.
