Izula for Deer?

Personally I would use the Izula,
Without any paracord wrap it will be easy to clean after the kill and it has plenty of belly for removing the hide. If you get a RC-3 on the other hand there is the possibility of staining the scales and getting blood under them

If your looking for a knife to buy in general I would say the RC-3 because it is more usefull IMO but if your only going to skin game I would buy the Izula (I however dont have the money to buy a specific knife for every task and would like the extra versitility of the larger bladed RC-3)

I doubt you are going to get blood under the scales of your knife. But I can guarantee you that blood isn't going to stain any part of the knife.

I'm going to toss my vote in for the RC3. The Izulu is the right size, but I would think the skeleton handle would get hard to hold onto when things get wet and slippery and your hand starts to fatigue. I like to keep a light grip on my knife when cleaning animals, guiding the tip with my pointer finger. Having a little more beef at the back of my hand with the wider handle and thicker scales would help control the roll of the knife.

Disclaimer: I haven't cleaned game with a RC3 or Izulu, but I have cleaned/skinned my share of animals so I'm not talking completely out of my posterior.

To throw in my bit, I have skinned and cleaned deer, chamois and a wild pig as well as a bunch of smaller animals with an Izula, and it worked fine. I have a RC3 as well and, again, it works fine. I prefer smaller blades around the width of my palm and the ESEE blade shape just works. Still like my Fallkniven H1 though. I use a paracord wrap on my Izula to improve the hold when wet. If it starts to hum a bit (as in smell) I just rewrap it...never found that an issue.

Used an RC4 and a mini-canadian for whitetail season last year. I can tell you i loved using the mini canadian for the work. Use it for start to finish cleaning duties now so i would put the izula up there with it. However i would want scales on the izula or remove the paracord first.
