I've been carrying an izula for a while now and just recently bought a hest (waiting for it to arrive). I would assume the HEST would be more useful because along w/ a blade you have the prybar (which is why I'm getting it,) the bottle opener (the real reason I'm getting it,) and the scales you can store stuff in. I believe it's a bit thicker so it won't slice quite as well, but the added functionality makes it worth it for me in an edc.
That being said, if all you need it for is a go to blade then the izula will more than fit the bill, and it's very compact.
lol im not to sure why i would need it but my teacher gave us a list of things to bring( we are doing this threw a musem wich is partnered with our school) and it said to bring a knife no more then 4 3/4" big and after using my cousins H.E.S.T i love it but im not sure is is something i need for this trip
hahaha awesome if only i realized i did thatlooks like you answered your own question![]()

i guess it took my awesomeness to point out the obvious.![]()
If I start making decisions on what what I need- I got some selling to do!
Don't like the sounds of that...![]()
If you're going to Peru, you need an Izula. I can say that with absolute confidence. On the plus side, it's cheaper and lighter than the HEST.
I just ordered one today as well. Looking forward to seeing if it's as great as they say.
I ordered the OD with the full kit.
Check it out here... http://www.ratcutlery.com/neck_knife.htm
I bought mine here... http://newgraham.com/store/product/6041/IZULA-OD-with-Survival-Kit-RCIZULAODKIT/

haha yeah thats where we start pretty much then we are going a guess to follow a old trading road and basicly try to find things about the people who built the road and the temerary settlements around themWhen you go to Peru with your Izula, just make sure you don't get bit by your Izula (don't cut yourself accidentally) and don't get stung by an Isula (the bullet ant which it is named after)- hurts like crazy for 18 hours or more!
Although I imagine if your trip is partnered with a museum, you are probably going to see Inca ruins like Machu Picchu in the mountains? (beautiful ruins if you get the chance). The isula ants are more in the jungle.
