Izula or H.E.S.T?

hest1.jpg

A lot of of people assume that the RAT DPx H•E•S•T is heavy because its thick and meaty...its not.:) Note the actual amount of steel with the hollow handle and I should not that this balances the knife as well. The RC4 weighs 7.4 ounces, the RC3 is 5.2 ounces the HEST weight is only 4.5 ounces, the IZULA is only 2 ounces.

The knives also feel very different with the HEST actually being shorter than the RC3 at 7 and 5/8ths inches and the RC being 8 2/16ths inches and the RC4 being 9 inches

All knives feel very different and have their own following. But there is nothing wrong with owning them all!

hmmm i do think i shall get both

I went back and forth between the HEST and the Izula for my first RC knife.

I finally decided on the Izula because at the end of the day my activities didn't warrant a pry bar, bottle opener or a wire breaker. I just wanted a good cutting tool that was small, light and easy to carry.

It should be here any day now, and I'm stoked!

hahaha i have no use for those either i dont think i just think its so cool i cant help my self lol i just need to figure out which one to take with me now......

Oh, don't get me wrong, I want a HEST too! I was trying to decide which to get first.

But yes, "cool" is one of my top criteria for a knife purchase! ;)

I suppose the other and far more pragmatic comparison would be price. The Izula sells for around $52, the RAT 3 is around $73, RAT DPx H•E•S•T goes for around $100 The RAT 4 is around $105

But in reality each knife has its own personality.

12 pairs of boot socks
12 x shirts

Hi,I'm new to your sub-forum & I was going to start a new thread with this same topic, when I ran across this one.
I to am undecided on which one to get either.I like RAT knives & I lurk here from time to time. The fact is,I don't get out much...fishing weekends a few X's a year & I try & get out during deer season at least once a year.I envy you guys.I'd love to go on adventures in the wilderness like you guys do.I used to quite a bit when I was younger, then marriage, kids & work,work,work...well you get the point.Life happens.
I'm an Independent Taxi/Limo Driver & I work in an urban environment.Well,It's not NYC,but pretty darn close!
I carry a knife everyday & "Yes" it does come in handy more times than you'd think, considering my environment.I usually carry a Large Sebenza,or many of the other well built folders I have.
Lately I've had the urge to carry a small FB for my EDC.Same reasons that've been stated by others..."No moving parts","A folder is a broken knife, why not get a FB?":D....etc.

So back to the two in question,The Izula & The HEST

I'd like to keep it sheathed in my front pocket.I don't like anything hanging around my neck.
Which one's the most comfortable in the pocket while seated mostly?
I'll probably keep the scales & the cord off & carry them barebones.
Which one would be suited for more of an urban environment,ie:cutting rope, packages, maybe an emergency belt or hose fix on a car, last ditch SD weapon?
I have a few more questions I can't think of right now.I'll come back here in the morning.

Thanks for any help

seanystrangle,If this is considered hijacking a thread.I apologize.I really didn't mean to.

lol its cool i dont mind and hmm i think if your using it for mostly cutting id go with the izula i have not gotten either in yet but i got to use my cousins hest for a week for a school project and i have never used the izula so im not really sure.
oh and the list of everything the paper told me to bring
2x cotton t-shirts
3x long sleaved shirts
1x bug shirt and pants (no clue what this is)
1x heavy rough use rain-jacket and pants
3x boxers nothing form-fitting
1x shorts
1x wind pants and wind jacket
1x leather work gloves
1x jungle boots
12x pairs of wool socks
1x pairs of running shoes (what am i going to be running from?)
1x 2600-4200 cu inch backpack
1x sleeping bag
3x water bottle/ water bladder 16-48 oz
2x sunscreen
1x sunglasses
1x flashlight
1x camp light
8x sets of batteries
4x candles
1x lighter or 4x packs of matches
1x camera and film or 1x digital camera 3x 4 gig memory cards
1x 4 3/4" or smaller knife
1x 3 season backpacking tent
3x patching kits
what knife do you think i should carry with me that would like not be too much of a hassle with all this stuff? and any recomendations on what else to bring? if anything

Personally I'd say go with the Izula - lighter knife that doesn't sacrifice much blade length and comes in at a lower price point. Also I think everyone can and will enjoy an Izula where as a HEST could possibly be a love or hate item. I personally went with the Izula when faced with the choice. That being said, I am inching closer and closer to getting my HEST :)

sorry another question but what would be the best way to carry either on in peru i dont know the laws and what not they havent told us yet lol and anyone know of a good pack that fits the sizes above sorry for going off topic
