Izula > Rambo "survival" knife.

I still have my Rambo knife as well.
Pretty good knife, 440C and all (at least it says so on the blade), but then I never hacked anything with it -- it sliced and diced and was meant to "kill Charlie".

Anyway, I feel sorry for him, too. I mean think of it, he thought he had the perfect knife picked out, paid for it himself, and first time out, it sh*ts the bed on him.

Sure, he probably should have waited and asked, but c'mon, how many of us had made decisions we honestly thought were right when we were kids and they turned out wrong. Remember how bad we felt?

Yep, been there/done that...but if he paid attention and learned a good lesson early (spending his own money on it) it could be a good thing. He's on his way to becoming one of us :)

Oh well, those knives were fun, but rarely useful. although I did manage to make a spear after the handle broke off

Im glad that I fell in love with Aitor Jungle King, instead of those off of trunks, even when I was too much of a kid to purchase such a blade, and never had one, too.
But my father was really into Japanese swords, and knew a lot about blades...
so Im glad there was someone of noteworthy knowledge who guided me through.

Me being fairly new to Quality knives, I am glad that he purchased it and learned from the experience. I have a Rambo Knife and a lot of other "BIG" knives that I have destroyed while camping and hiking. I am Grateful that I have learned what makes a good knife (ESEE ;) ). He will look back on this as a growing experience, Hopefully.

Went through that phase myself when I was a kid and Rambo was out. Everybody who spent anytime outdoors went nutz for these things.

My knife actually survived(on my top shelf) well into my "God if I only knew then what I know now" phase aka. adulthood. My sheath dissolved and the blade was so soft it was bent and deformed to the point where I was unable to keep the entire blade length sharp.

Recently, my next door neighbor and I were talking about his son who is in the Boy Scouts and the knife he wants. He said he wanted a "good" knife, but could only spend $20.00. He was looking at the "Rambo" specials. I suggested to my neighbor that he look at an Izula Kit instead. Buy once, buy for life. We'll see what happens.

i did the same thing the other day out in the garage (just on a whim) with my izula, difference is it was a 2x4 and obviously took less time.. yes it was easy and still hair shaving sharp.. i tried the same chore with other knives to no avail.. it can be done but not nearly as easily as the Izula... I can't say enough bout this little guy, I have two one ESEE the other RC, you never know if your gonna lose one..

OP come on break down and buy the kid one, maybe we can all chip in few bucks and get the kid a real knife..... I'm in for $5 anyone else..?

Edit: I just realized the date of original posting, anyhow my offer still stands pending an update on the kids situation.. :0)

That sucks to hear that the kids own money was spent on a total POC hollow handled Rambo knife, that broke right away on him. I can totally understand though, when I was a kid I wanted one of those damn knives so bad! That's great that you showed them the video and recommended an ESEE knife. Should he get one, it will last him a long, long time.

Hi TheLastDaze -

That is a very generous offer.

The kid has plenty of money to be able to buy an Izula -

I picked up a machete at Harbor Freight for him, since his heart was set on a big blade to chop with.

Thanks for the offer though - and I'll keep at him - I'll show him my Izula that I just picked up.

best regards -
