Izula Scales - Love 'em!

I was able to pull the trigger on a set for myself finaly. I also have found them to be better than the 550 cord wrapped handle. I was kind of skeptical about them being so small but I like the fact that I can still carry my Izula in my pocket without discomfort.

I agree, they are a GREAT upgrade to the IZULA!!

I have used mine alot in the past few weeks. To me, the knife is much more comfortable in the hand for longer sessions with the new scales than it was with the paracord wrap.

Before I buy a pair I wanted to ask those who have them, would it be possible to modify the Izula handles by removing mircata from the inside, say with a dremel or router, kinda like the HEST handles ? I like the HEST but do not have one (yet), but I have an Izula and was thinking about this modification ? Anyone can help explain if the handles are thick enough and is there enough space to do this? Thanks guys.

I say no...... they have a raised radius to fit on the inside on Izula handle for a no wiggle fit. :D

It could be done, but you could only do the area between the screws because like texastonydobbs you wouldn't want it to wiggle. If you left the area around the screws, there would still be enough of a "lip" to prevent wiggle but there might not be enough room to justify the effort.

I suppose that you might be able to make a space that would fit some fish hooks and line.

Anything that would fit inside the scales could be attached to the sheath with a mini-ranger band. Also, the screws with the scales are allen head, not flat head like on the HEST, correct? Will you have an allen wrench to get your tiny item out of the scales?

I don't normally click through to read reviews, but since it is for "low speed, high drag" guys, I had to read through your whole site. :D

thanks for the review. i've got mine cord wrapped now, but i'm looking at picking up the scales if the ones i make this weekend don't work out.

My problem is I'm high-drag and low-speed

My Iz came in the mail today and I think the scales are next on my list. The para wrap is ok but its kinda hard to really latch onto the little booger. A bit more width would be nice.

i am gonna have to get myself a set of these eventually. they look good. but for the moment i happy with the look and feel of a naked izula  ;)

The scales are sweet - I agree with the "no-go" for a stash compartment inside, though... just not enough room for anything worthwhile, and would need to either change out the hardware or bring an allen wrench with you...

That said, a ranger band around the sheath could easily store some small items like a few hooks, wrap some line around the sheath before the band is placed, etc.
