Izula Usage

So what color are you going to order Todd A? :D I'm probably correct in assuming you have more knowledge about knives than me so an evaluation of the Izula by you seems in order.

If ESEE offered full scales, instead of the short ones, I'd consider one for my son. I have no interest otherwise, since I own my perfect EDC fixed blade.

(but it was also close to three times the price)

If you Rat Packers could convince ESEE to make a choiless ESEE 3, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.!!!!!!!!!

Ohhh..and by the way. If we ever "talk" again, you can drop the "A". My name is Todd.

Todd, I agree with you on the "bikini" scales. I was disappointed they didn't go with the full scales but most people wanted the bikini's so they listened. I wouldn't mind some choiless models as well. That's one of the things I like about the Izula, you can get right up near the cutting edge.

I agree. The choil needs to be bigger, or taken off and the handle made longer. But the RC3 is excellent.

What is your EDC Todd? If you dont mind me asking.

earlier he said becker BK11

Nope, I said I owned one.;)

JK Handmade Knives EDC model , 3" ,1/8" thick O-1 blade. 6 1/2" overall length. Green micarta scales with black liners. Convex edge. Been in my pocket for about ten months now. It used to be nice and shiney.

well my bad, i was just going off what you said. kinda hard to compare a custom to a production knife IMO

Yeah, when you said "almost 3 times the price" that kinda threw me. I was thinkin maybe The San Mai version, but it would still come up short. That JK is a beautiful blade. Carbon or Stainless?

The blade shape on that JK looks similarly shaped to the BK-11. Of course the handle must be a lot better.

O-1 is a carbon steel. It sharpens real easily also. I have a Fiddleback Nessmuk in O-1 and like it a lot. O-1 takes a beautiful patina.

That's why I didn't offer to compare my EDC to the Izula. Wouldn't have been fair.

And that is why Shotgun said what he did in his post right after my first post.;) (He knows what I carry)

Carbon or Stainless?

As Hoopster said O-1 is a carbon steel. Now, on paper O-1 is a better steel than 1095.

In real world use, you would be hard pressed to tell the differance (I can't). Both act the same.

My Izula seems harder than the O-1 on the Fiddleback but that may not be accurate. I'm sure the heat treat would be the biggest difference but yeah, both work fine for me. I've cut a few potatoes up with the O-1 blade and the blue patina is awesome. Similar to your knife Todd.

John runs his O-1 to 57-58 for hardness. Don't know what Andy does, or Rowen on their 1095.
