I am going to get my first fixed blade knife, and I am deciding whether to get the Izula or BK14. What are the pros and cons of each one? Which do you like better?

~$50 is overpriced? I'd say the Izula is a bargain at $50. I don't have a BK14 (yet) so I can't say anything about it.

they are both good. i think the factory sheath is better on the izula, but i really like the blade on the BK14. either way you will be satisfied. as others have said just get both! :D

BK14 has a bigger blade and a smaller price tag. Izula's sheath is better and blade is pointier (if that matters - it does if you clean game). The steel about the same. I like the Becker better but I can certainly see why some would choose the Izula. Both are outstanding.

That wasn't a bit helpful, was it? :)

Here's a gratuitous pic of my BK14 having done a little work...

does the sheath on the becker have any way to do belt carry? i could buy a kydex sheath with it

well this just made my choice even harder, they can both be carried on the belt, so i have to decide which blade i like better. which is your favorite?

I stole gundude73's BK14, and it is awesome. I'll probably buy one of my own once he comes looking for it ;)

I do paracord loops as another poster mentioned. Actually, I use a bit of paracord long enough to hang it on my neck (which is typically where I carry it) but it takes about two minutes to reconfigure that to belt loops.

personal favorite is the Izula 2 thanks to the longer handle.
While I like the blade on the BK14 a lot, it really needs scales to balance right.
The original Izula feels very good in hand with just a paracord wrap.

Get a bk14, with the money you save, you can have a head start for when you want to buy a bk2,7,9.. As was stated earlier.

I just paid less than 42 dollars for a new Izula so it isn't much more, if any than the Becker. I think the ESEE has a superior heat treat and the QC is better. The grinds being set at a perfect 20 degrees per side is good, too. It carries around the neck better (smaller) and the design allows for all of the force to be put in the sweet spot of the belly, making it cut really, really well. Nothing against the Becker, but you asked.

I'd stay away from the BK14; it's sheath is made of a material that dulls the knife extremely quickly. Like, after 2 or 3 draws it will go from shaving your hair to unable to cut paper.

The knife itself is awesome, but the sheath needs a replacement.

Save yourself the trouble and get an Izula.

is the extra inch of handle on the izula 2 worth it for a little harder neck carrying?

the izula 2 has an extra 1/2" handle, not a full inch. i doubt it would be harder to neck carry.
