Hi Everyone,
Here is an antique bowie I made that is fashioned after the "J. Hinchliff's Celebrated Bowie Knife". The original was made 1840-1850. I forged the blade from 5160.
The blade is 17 1/2" long and has a 9 1/2" sharpened clip, this is the loooongest blade I've made to date. The handle is a stage taper and features my first ever escutcheon plate. This is the first time I've used a stage taper and it won't be my last
The guard is sculpted from german silver as are the rest of the fittings. I also made a throat and tip sheath for this knife. Which is also a first. The throat, tip and frog are of german silver. The overall length is 23".
I would like to give special thanks to Ron Newton for his advice on throat and tip sheaths and to my brother, Caleb for the photo.
I'll have this knife available at the Blade Show this weekend. I am working on one more knife to have available which will be an auto, I may or may not have enough time to finish it.
Thanks for looking!
