Hi Everyone,

Here is an antique bowie I made that is fashioned after the "J. Hinchliff's Celebrated Bowie Knife". The original was made 1840-1850. I forged the blade from 5160.
The blade is 17 1/2" long and has a 9 1/2" sharpened clip, this is the loooongest blade I've made to date. The handle is a stage taper and features my first ever escutcheon plate. This is the first time I've used a stage taper and it won't be my last:) The guard is sculpted from german silver as are the rest of the fittings. I also made a throat and tip sheath for this knife. Which is also a first. The throat, tip and frog are of german silver. The overall length is 23".

I would like to give special thanks to Ron Newton for his advice on throat and tip sheaths and to my brother, Caleb for the photo.

I'll have this knife available at the Blade Show this weekend. I am working on one more knife to have available which will be an auto, I may or may not have enough time to finish it.

Thanks for looking!

Here is a picture of the original.

Great looking knife/dagger/short sword lol. I will definitely try to get over early to look at this one. If I could just mention one thing for Caleb. Leave a bit more room at the top and bottom of the canvas so that the guard/throat area would fit into the 1/3 area of the overall image. The Rule of thirds is a good one to keep in mind when creating the overall image. Caleb is doing a wonderful job with his images. Just thought he might find this info of value. See you guys in a couple days.

That's beautiful Kyle, and with it's size, will be VERY appealing to many people. Well done!

Kyle, that is a fantastic sheath and knife yet again. I was really looking forward to coming to Blade this year but due to comitments at work I won't be able to get there. Have a really great show. Guess I will get to see some pics!!

Wow - what a spectacular (and huge!) rendition of a classic (and huge!) antique bowie. Really impressive. I would love to pick that one up and wave it around like crazy. :)

Amazing work short sword or Bowie, what ever you consider it, its excellent work

That's a very nice rendition of the original. Can't wait coon finger that one at Blade.
You're showing good versatility in your knives Kyle.
No matter what you tackle, the outcome is the same.

Impressive!

Kyle, that is really great. I definitely want to give that one a good look at the show. Really nice rendition and excellent work as always.

Congrats Kyle, his work is always magnificent, and that his reading did not want to leave anything to the original.

Hugs

Very nice. Looks like a bit of German hunting sword influence in the design of the original.
