J&L Custom (fallen) Cutlery Utility Grade Bowie

"Wow, that escalated quickly."

No need for apologies, no need for embarrassment.

Also, no need from members to condescend or make snide superior comments (unless the snide superior comments are mine, because then it is always ok!)

Just stick around. Maybe you can lend your knowledge to our sword sub forum, which tends to have way less traffic than it ought (mostly because ignoramus like me posts there occasionally).

I only have one sword. A clunky, heavy ugly beater (Skofung Last of the Legends metal brick). I only bought it years ago because I had no knowledge, and no one to enlighten me. I know nothing about swords, but I feel like the handle is the wrong shape, the weight is too high etc. I don't know how the handle is constructed, or frankly, whether it would go to pieces if I cut something with it.

Kind of impossible to shill for him... He has no website . And I didn't link to any contact information.

I post in the sword room here , and thought it would be nice to post the knife review here as well .

I will continue to seek to learn about knives ... But I'm not quite ready for art knives yet ...but if its anything like swords I'm sure I will get there .

1. Don't edit out your post, that's ridiculous. I would have liked to see what everyone else saw, now I can't. I'd have liked the chance to be civil.

2. Welcome to Custom sub-forum. As you can see, it's a bit different here. The guys will eat you alive, but sometimes that's not so bad. I posted my second slipjoint here because I wanted brutal honesty, not just attaboys. My third is about to go off to heat treat, and you can damn sure bet I'm going to post it here to get torn apart. How else is a guy supposed to learn. Take the comments as help, and swallow the pride.

3. This is the main reason I decided to get into this conversation. The knives posted here range from basic to fantastic. Yes, there are some art knives, but most of the knives posted are high quality, high performance tools that happen to look exceptionally good. It seems to me that fit, finish, workmanship, and craftsmanship are valued here, no matter the price range of the piece. If the piece you posted looked as bad as these guys' comments made them out to be, that maker needs to know about them. Hurt feelings have no place, it's about making the best knife possible. If a new maker posts a basic knife here with micarta scales, carbon steel, basic pins, etc. but the f&f is great, the grinds clean, the edge sharp, then the gentlemen here would laud it, not pan it. If there were flaws, they'd get pointed out, not glossed over. All this regardless of the price point.

Welcome to Customs. When you play in the big sandbox expect to get sand in your pants.
