I made up that name.
The owner will surely castigate me, not to mention J.R.

The actual designation of this outstanding big bowie is ALT #9 2010 - that is to say Arkansas Living Treasure, which means it has a special registration and so on. This is one of those special blades.

J.R. did all the work. The blade is 1084 & 15N20, 10.5 inches (15.5 OAL) and it weighs 1.6 lbs. Fittings are iron with gold overlay and the handle features a most unusual piece of elephant ivory. The knife is formidable in its rich countenance. (All that gold makes me want to use fancy words. ;))

Love the knife - bold, broad, aggressive blade shape and a bold damascus pattern to go with it. One of the the things I like best, though, is that sweet hunk of ivory. Just so much character in the rich colour and texture. Unusual, yes - and to my eye quite beautiful. I like the creamy white elephant ivory very much, but it's something we see quite a lot and one piece looks very much like the next. Bark pieces tend to stand apart from the rest - and from each other. This one is clearly something quite unique even within that more distinctive group. The gold plating is also a bit different, but works well with the tan and brown tones in the ivory.

J.R. set out to make a special knife and I'd say he succeeded.

Great looking Bowie J.R.

Really like the gold overlay work.

Buddy your work shows everything very well, as usual.

Take care

Whoooooooeeeyy.

I also love that handle. Especially the wear marks. :)

Buddy, you The Man.

that's a great photo! I'm not a pro, it looks seamless to me though:thumbup:

Very fitting name Buddy. :)

This is really a great Bowie, by one of the finest bladesmiths in the ABS.
JR's deep etch high contrast Damascus blade is outstanding as is the rare and exquisite elephant ivory. Anyone who has inspected/handled JR's knives knows what the photo can't show; the precision fit/finish and the way JR's Bowies feel as though an extension of the arm. A perfect example of where a finely crafted and beautiful work of art can ALSO be a high performing instrument.

A Real "Arkansas Bowie" and a great one at that.

Buddy's images are just getting better and better. Love his use of subtle props to render a tasteful classic look and how he depicts knives at their absolute best, not less, not more.

If this isn't the finest Bowie displayed here on Blade Forums in 2010, it's not far from the top in my opinion.

Congratulations ALL around.

 Absolutely a beautiful bowie and photo. Kudos to both artists:thumbup::D:thumbup: Merry Christmas to all:thumbup:

I had a preview of this knife with some not so expert photos and at that moment I wasn't sure about the gold plated parts on this knive, BUT now that I'm able to see this knife in all its glory (thanks to Buddy's excellent skills) I have to revise my opinion. All parts of this knife come together beautifully. That steel is really cool and I have never seen a piece of elephant ivory like this....really special indeed.

This piece of ivory screams for some deep carving, to better contrast the outside and the inside.

No doubt about it this is a real special knife. I think JR hit it out of the park. It is massive but feels great in the hand. The ivory is simply something I have not seen before and it has great character. The steel is uniquely JR. I was unsure of how i felt about the gold but having it hand confirms i would not want it any other way. It just works. Working with JR is a real treat, he is a consummate professional and an all around nice guy.

I also do not cease to be amazed at the progression of talent Buddy exhibits with his photography. Again he enhances the beauty of the package and just has a great eye. I really appreciate the work he put into this.

Happy holidays to all!!

Jon

Beautiful knife, great photo.

Both JR and Buddy have steeped up a notch.

I personally feel that JR is very underrated and has long deserved to be in the top tier as far as value and collectability. Damned nice, down-to-earth guy, too!

Bowie Booster is absolutely right, JR is one of the most underated knife makers out there. He is a great maker and a hell of a nice guy!:D:thumbup:
