I passed the first part of the Journeyman smith test ( The bend and cut part) Woohoo, here is a picture of four of my five presentation presentation knives. Have had two master smiths critic them. Thanks to both of them they pointed out my little flaws and was able to get them in shape.

Thanks for looking
God Bless

Just curious as the look perfect to me. What did they find wrong if you dont mind me asking.

Good going Billy, I passed my performance test last week and have 3 of my presentation blades forged but not complete. Thanks for the preview and good luck in june. Paul

Billy, they all look great! I'm sure you will prevail in June! Have fun and enjoy the Blade Show!

Billy, any idea how many knives you have made so far? I am eligible to test, but lack experience and the skill!

Savvy for you to have them inspected closely now, and also smart to have this much accomplished before June.

Nicely done. :)

I dont mind at all.It was kinda neat because I looked these things over many times. I was surprised but very thankful they found them
1) on the bowie my Guard was not perpendicular to the blade. It wasnt of much but it dont take much( Put new guard and handle on it)
2) On the bowie again I had a very small two inch grind vertical line. It was very hard to see but they seen it.
3) on the small hunters Brion suggested I do some changes to my handle design. Wasn't much but the way they were it was hard to get them to look right on each side. I made them slimmer and tapered. Alot easier to align the center of the handle with the spine of the knife.
4)On the knives where the pins go through the handle you could feel just a very slight rise where the pins were. This was from the slack belt. After redoing the handles I used a hard sanding block on the pins.
5)last but not least one of my plunge grinds was just a hair higher on the top side.
As I said I really didn't see them and am so thankful to the guys for helping me learn what and where to look.
Thanks for the question and thanks for the comments guys.

Hey Steve I really don't know how many I have made maybe around two hundred or so like I said I don't know. I felt the same way about my experience Steve. I hope you try sometime..

Those look great, congrats on being so far ahead of the game. Good luck to you :)

Yep Billy, getting your test knives critiqued is the smart play.
A big congratulations on your successful performance test!

CONGRATULATIONS BUBBA !!!! They all look really good, but I think Ray should have singed the spalted handles rather than the one with the blade all bent up :D

Congrats Billy, I see you have one of the good guys working with you and those knives look nice and clean to me ;).

I think Coop nailed it. I am glad you have those 5 ready to go. Too many friends save that work for the "last minute" and I think it is better to get an early start on those test knives so you can take your time with them and get out and show them to guys who can help out.

Looking forward to seeing you and Ray in a couple of months. My fingers will be crossed for ya.
