Thanks, Jack. My subtle and cunning plan has shifted a bit.

So here's a Stag of Ireland scout knife missing one shell handle. ( I have scout knives, but this is my first Irish Stag.)
I thought I might peel a handle off another shell handled scout knife. Unfortunately, these cheap shell-handled Imperials hold up very well, so I don't have one fit to be cannibalized.

I do have a Camillus scout so beat up I'm surprised to have bought it. I plan to drill and melt off a couple of bolsters from that, glue them to the Stag, and glue the shrinky-dink in between.

Knife projects are one of my favorite ways to pass the time:thumbup: Some kind of wood, bolster less handles would be interesting.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Jer  I love the IDEA of projects, but a combination of a lack of time, and sheer cluelessness, mean that fewer and fewer of my projects come to fruition! :o :D

Looks like an interesting project, scrteened porch; thanks for keeping us posted!:cool:

Jack, didn't Clint Eastwood, as Dirty Harry, utter the wise words, "A man's got to know his limitations"? :D

I can relate. Kind of like my vegetable gardens.

Everyone should find a beat to snot shell handled knife for less than $1 and use it like they stole it (they did). It is surprising what the shell handles will take. They do dent with back pocket carry which I hate, but keep on truckin' even then.

That's what I would do if it were missing both handles. Actually I once did that on a missing handle and left the shell handle on the other side. I can't find that one now, so it may be one of the three a guy managed to sell for me. (I consigned 34 to him, but they were the sort of things only I would buy. 31 of them are now in my parts bin where they belong.)
Because it's my only Stag, and because I'm lazy, I want to preserve the remaining handle and cobble together something that looks not too different for the missing one.

Thanks for the kind words Mark

He did GT, my limitations seem to get greater by the day though! ;eek: :D

Vegetable garden? I'd have to get past my table to get to the vegetable garden! :D

Yep, often decent knives, I love what Glennbad has done with some of them. In this case, it looks like the handles just weren't attached properly at the factory as the knife doesn't look like it has been used.

I keep meaning to PM you Dave, and will do so shortly my friend

Davek14, I had an epiphany recently. I have some nice and unusual Imperial jackknives that I tell myself I will carry if I ever have the skills or funds to put nice handles on them.
I suddenly said to myself, "Self, do you listen to yourself? You admire these knives for being strong and sharp, and you admire the achievement of those who made them strong, sharp, and cheap, but you won't carry them until you've torn apart their excellent structure, with much sorrow and pain, and put on handles so nice you'll be afraid to use them?"
They might start showing up in the EDC thread.

[Oh, by the way, the postcard of the tops'l schooner came from Jack with the knife.]

I've been distracted with a Basque makila- inspired spear stick, since I came across some coyote scat in the back yard, which is my excuse for not being further along with this.
I snipped the pin in the donor knife by slipping in a knife and squeezing it in a vice. Don't try this at home! Always wear safety glasses! I also stood in a forward tiger stance to protect my cruxial vitals, tucked in my chin to protect my throat, and threw a rag over the top to retard the flight of anything that might have gone ping-sproing.

Now I have to file the nubbins off the backs of the bolsters and relieve them to receive the raised pins on the donee liners.
