I am looking for some information. I tried doing a search for this person here but nothing. Does anyone here know anything about Jack Crain of crainknives.com? Does anyone know if there has been any problems with him in the past or if something has happened to him in the last 6-7 months? Thanks for any info. I am making this inquiry for a friend.

I emailed him about a knife months ago.Have NOT heard back from him.You might try getting ahold of <primoknives.com> they have had a few of his knives for sale there. They might know something.

I dont know Tom. Did you read the reply that Keith Montgomery posted that was sent to him by Jack. It looks like there was two sides to this story.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Coug, I think I typed Jack Crain and got an error message.
The friend that I am making this inquiry for had Crain make a bowie for him. The inital order and partial payment was made 12 months ago. The partial payment was made by money order. In November of 2003 he received an email from Crain saying that the knife was finished and to send final payment, which was again made by money order. Since that time, no knife, no answer to numerous emails and phone calls. My friend works for a Sheriffs dept here and he got the sheriffs dept. in the county where Crain lives to go by the residence. They reported back to him that it looked as though no one has been around the place in quite some time. No one knows if something has happened to him or what the reason is for the non delivery.

Read that letter of Jack's again. He was babbling. What did that dig at the end about Farid's character have to do with anything?

This is not the first time he's skipped out on a commitment.

Too bad. On a second look it does seem a bit out there, but so does the other fellow. It just sucks to see (apparently) good knife makers names drag through the dirt. But if he brought it on himself, (which I'm still unsure about since the facts conject) then I have no sympathy.

Crain's name has been brought up alot of times over the years as being someone not to trust or pay in advance.
Of course it's hard to listen to Farid's complaints after all his knives being rippoffs of other makers.

IMO there are just too many honorable, trustworthy, and skilled knifemakers in the world to buy from people like these.

DO NOT PAY IN ADVANCE, NOT ONE CENT. Otherwise, go for it! (I was quoted a 4 month wait, paid when I was told it was ready, and about 3 years later after much threateing I got my knife. Sold it at Blade West for half what I paid.)

EXACTLY! Why even bother.......?

EDITED TO ADD: Good luck to your friend and grill the bastard!!!

If it was just the problem that Farid had with Jack then I would have a hard time deciding who was at fault, but Jack has had other complaints against him over the years. You can never please everyone all of the time, but if you want to have a good reputation you should try your best to do so. Jack does not seem to live by this credo.

I want to thank everyone for their replies. I contacted my friend a few minutes ago and he has decided to get his stuff together and go talk to his district attorney and follow his advice.
Have a great Fathers Day weekend.
