One for sale today and many more to come.
NO TRADES PLEASE.
I recently traded this one and it turned out to be something the other member wasn’t interested in. This one is used. I put a new edge on it last night 12/20/24 - 600 grit freehand that shaves arm hair across the entire length of secondary. This is a forged tool, it’s not perfect aesthetically, there are subtle curves in the length of the blade if looking down at the spine. The heat treatment Mr Helm is known for is also known for slight warps and inconsistencies in the fit / finish - this isn’t a carothers.. this is a hand forged , handmade hard use tool.. please don’t buy this if you want AI level immaculate symmetry and CPM super steel of the week. Don’t buy this if you want to baton through cinder blocks, don’t buy this if you want to chop through 8 inch seasoned oak logs, don’t buy this if you don’t want to oil it.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way here is what this knife is about.
80crv2 steel forged to shape and hand ground. Excellent heat treatment with a little spring in the spine. Epoxy cured coyote and black paracord handle with a turkshead knot. FDE kydex. Blade stock is about .20 at the handle and tapers gradually to a nice stout point - average spine thickness is around 5/32 and the belly of the blade is about 2.4 inches from spine to edge, blade is 12 inches long. This knife can do a lot of work in the right hands - it’s not a hardwood chopper to replace an axe though ( it can chop hardwood though ). I prefer the weight of this knife to most of the “choppers” I’ve owned.. it’s nimble and hits hard - this one fits between a machete and a dedicated heavy chopper. Easy to carry strapped to a pack, smooth draw from the kydex. Again - this one has seen very mild use but definitely shows scuffs, scratches and patina - all of which blend with the forged finish well.
This would make a great trail clearing tool, great SHTF tool or a great general camp tool.
I believe Mr Helm sells these types of knives for around $600 now.
