Howdy all! Just found James McGowan's website and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them? They look alright, and certainly are priced right. Just looking for a few references!
I don't own any of James' knives but I have handled MANY examples at Canadian Knifemaker Guild shows and Toronto Knife Knut events (James is a fellow Canadian). You can see a few pics of him and his work here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=251983&highlight=CKG (and in some of my other reviews).
James is a fulltime fireman and part time knifemaker. His work is field tested on the job and quite robust. I would recommend his work without hesitation. Also, for those who ascribe to the "buy the knifemaker not the knife" philosophy, I have to say that James is a great guy and he will work with you to make something to your specs.
I've got one of is little neck knifes he makes a great knife. I've always meant to get more of his knives also but with other orders and stuff i just never got around to it!
He's a good guy to deal with to good communication and friendly!
James is currently working on his Firefighters knife/prybar/extrication tool for me. It will be my Xmas gift to my son Dean who also is a Toronto Firefighter. When it arrives, I'll photograph it and post to the forums. I think it will attract a lot of attention from other Firefighters.
