Hmmm, been thinking about this a little bit. Am I asking for trouble with maple burl on the hatchet? Do you think it will be too slick and increase the chances of losing my grip and hurting myself?

No. You should have a firm grip on the handle while chopping. The Fiskars/Gerber hatchets are plastic and I never had a problem. Nearly all hatchets from a store are wood handled also.

Jim already has the hatchet, but would like to have the knife to go with it. The handle is red micarta. He said Michigan trail, red micarta. He would send his hatchet to have you stamp it to match.

That is actually red micarta, one of my favorites. Sheaths are included in the price.
