Here are a couple I did a little while ago.

Very cool. what kind of finish did you do on those? I like the top one but would like to have seen it more pointy :D

They look very cool but the pommel on the longer one seems unfinished compared to the tidiness of the rest of it.

Thanks for the comments guys.
The constructive criticism is dually noted.;)
Thanks
Mace

This was the first sword I forged. I heat treated it at a friends shop and didn't like how it came out.(not set up to do large sword blades here at the time). Plus I thought it was a bit on the thin side for a full sword...so I decided to cut it down and make the two. I decided to give these to a couple of friends for a favor they did for me. My intent was for them to use and abuse these so I did not spend a lot of time on the handles. The finish is hand rub to 400 then a dip in pheric...then some flitz. The only problem is these guys probably won't even open mail with them.

From a heat treating standpoint, it looks like your Hamon gets awfully close to the edge in some places. Then again heat treating long blades is a PITA, especially when you set your quench tank on fire- don't ask!

OK, are you now set up to do swords? If you are, how long is your HT forge?

I got a line on a piece of square tube about 10" X8" X36" for free:thumbup: I don't know if I want it because I see myself doing longer blades than that in the future  ...but it will be free, always a plus.

It's made from 1/4" thick stainless which means I'll have to weld either stainless tube for the multiple burners (definately venturi style burners), or Home Depot tube using 309 weld wire, it works great for different metal welds.

I do have a quench tank that will accommodate up to 40" blade.

Mace, Is the W-2 from the 5/8th round bar you had? I've just done one blade out of it so far. I seemed to have gotten my hamon on the low side also. You should try your 1084 for something like this. I've never been a cord wrap fan but two for one you can't go wrong with the blades.

The only problem is these guys probably won't even open mail with them.

You're so lucky Ashokan's past, or I'd be kickin' yer butt for this one!;):D:D

He's right guys... these'll likely be safe queens. I have thought about unwrapping the handles and taking the blade to a 5 micron belt finish just out of spite, but I don't want to hurt Mace's feelings.:D:D

Thanks again, bro! I know Dave loves his, too!

come on use the damn knives!!!you gotta cut some stuff with em.
damn mace i was too late in this thread to rack on you for you "sword"
ahh well better luck next time....

Hey Ray, Yes this is from the 5/8" round bar.

I agree, the hamon is a little close in a couple of spots, but It will take a real long time to sharpen past it. I have been playing around with clay so this was a bit of a learning experience for me.

Larry, Not totaly set up for large swords. Got a quench tank....and you already saw what I had to do to heat up the gladius.;)

Matt, If you do take it up to a 5 micron just don't grind it to dust...OK?:D
Glad you guys like them. Now get out there and beat the crap out of them!
Mace

P.S. Mike......BACON!

Mace,
We need to talk! Those are a far cry from what I sent you in 2001! LOL!
We have all grown since then, haven't we?
