Japanese khukuri attempt

Great! Did Mohd manage to get his address to you? (I know he is taking some time off work and wont have regular access to the net) Or did the Nepali shipping crew dig it out with an AK?

I have already marked a long standing eyesore of a decaying tree in the area just behind my house for the first tests. A coconut tree that was cripsed by lightning two years ago. I tried cutting it down once with a parang (a local version of the machete) once but the darn thing just bounced off the wood.

I plan to get the "before" and "after" pics.

Thanks, Red.

Did I tell you your knives are in the air?

etaka, my experiences tell me within 15" khukuris are okay with customs. 18" are okay, and over 20", you'll need some luck and months of time.

These are average case. If your nearest international airport is Kansai airport, any size of khukuris are just okay. My pal living in Kobe bought a 25" HI Sirupati from Uncle Bill, had no trouble with customs about it, albeit he had trouble with talwar in the same box...

Saji san said in interview of Knife mag, a pro maker needs SPEED if he wants to live on knife making.

We have been having good luck with Japanese customs lately. Probably last dozen khukuris got thru successfully.

Red, I sent the parcel to Mohd's home address which the Nepali shipping staff dug out of the files. Marked "Nepali steel handicraft" as Mohd always instructs.
