Japanese secret polishing techniques

Update: I took an old sock and used it to wipe up the "slurry" from my sharpening stones this last week. (one is 1200 grit one is 6000)
I then used the sock to rub down a JKM.
Oh My Lord!
It put a mirror polish on that blade in about 3 seconds!
You guys gotta try this!

my old socks would eat a hole in the blade. they have been outlawed by the geneva convention, classified just above mustard gas.

you'll have to use a lot of clove oil after you expose your poor blade to your's, i imagine with all that ninja activity yours must be more fragrant than mine....

I use old socks for gun and blade maintenance. I wash them before use.

This thread was a good idea. Thanks for sharing it, Danny.

I think it likely that the people who swoon and turn their noses high in the air over the Sword had their counterparts doing the same 2000 years ago. It's not new, as a previous post suggested.

Do you rub with 1200 1st and then 6000 ?

6000 grit ??? Where can i get one of those ?

My 6000 grit stone is a suehiro japanese wetstone.
Im not sure if yuou can buy them online, but probably.

The slurry is made when I rub the 6000 and the 1200 stones togeather after sharpening a knife to flatten the survaces of the stones.
this is regular maintenance for these types of stones.
So, the slurry is a blend of 1200 and 6000 grit powder.
