(Not my image)

Anyone ever come across one of these Japanese slipjoints with the old-school looks? Bubinga wood and SK5 carbon, half-stop, inexpensive.

I did once back in the service while actively pursing knives in Seki City and once in Yokohama. Never did buy one though...

I have not seen the slipjoint, but somewhere in the house is the friction folder version of that knife with a 1 piece brass handle (folded sheet metal).

A well-known tool company here in Canada (not sure if I can mention the name), sells a knife they call a Woodworker's Knife for $7.95. It has a stainless hawksbill blade, but the style of handle is almost identical. I will post a link if I'm allowed.

I've seen plenty Chinese knives in very similar patterns, usually with sheepsfoot or hawkbill blades. They tend to look more on the crude-but-functional side.

I got one similar

Thanks a lot for the info fellers, and for the link Blaine. Will PM you Trey999. The manufacturer is Mantaro, so perhaps they are retailed by a number of companies.

That looks interesting Rarreola. What's your opinion of it, how does it handle?

I suspect you may already know Jack, but the same place I emailed you about the Roto-Sphere's also sells these.
They look a little 'rustic' to say the least.

it's a different kind of slip joint, the spring is inside the frame. Tha blade is hollow ground almost like a straight razor.

The blade is carbon steel, I like it.

Interesting design! Who makes that one?

That construction looks sort of Douk-Douk-esque but with scales slapped on! Interesting. :)

Wow, very interesting, thanks for the pic  Think I'm going to have to get one of these just to have a play with :)

I found the OPs knife on a website that sales Japanese shop tools about 6mos ago. Listed HRC of 60. Haven't bought one yet tho.

Necro thread bump!

I have the same exact knife as the OP pictured, anyone know where it came from originally?

Doesn't look like a slipjoint, but rather a friction folder.
