Japanese slipjoint

I think 42 was right calling it a clad douk douk. I have one or two small American knives with similar construction.

Jack, did you ever get one of the Japanese ones?

Yes, I have a few older Sheffield knives, which are similar in terms of the spring.

I'm afraid I didn't yet! :o None of the UK dealers stock them, and the German company who list them have a minimum order. ScruffUK sometimes shops with the company, but everytime I mention the Japanese knife he rolls his eyes and looks at me quite disparagingly! :D One day! :)

Doesn't look like a slipjoint, but rather a friction folder.

Yeah that looks a lot like the higonokame (sp?) friction folder with shell? handles added and a douk-douk/mercator style spring hiding in the handle perhaps?

I think I'd like this knife, seeing as it's pretty hard, for carbon, I've had very good luck with carbon steels over 58 HRC. SK-5 is good stuff anyways. I have a chromed Hignokami in SK-5, and it came with a screaming sharp edge..

Sorry! ;)

Some great info on these knives from gr8dismal in the EDC thread

Got at Amazon, sold as a "Morris" electricians knife w/slitting blade, Morris also has the same w/hawkbill. I saw the replies in the other thread, and yes, it is not finely finished ;) I've seen the same knives on searches sold under different brands. Chinese, stainless. Has a soft snap&a nail groove. I think I paid 12 dollars or so for it.

Good blade type for working rope&cordage, has a nice lanyard eye. Hand-filling, and the protruding portion of the blade at the ricasso actually works (whether or not it's a conscious addition) to support the index finger in use. I like work knives, but I'm browsing GEC's since I came to the blade forums, they're beautiful and I'm going to acquire one*.
