The only thing I am familiar with is the CRKT Hissatsu. Anyone else know of other Japanese style folders? Not necessarily made in Japan or China, but with the Asian influence.

would you include anything with a tanto blade? or more like imitation rayskin, cord wraps, etc

I have heard of Mcusta knives, but not quite sure what to think of that brand. I believe they are very good quality though. I also am considering used blades too in order to assist in getting the price within my budget.

I've never owned a Mcusta but I've had my eye on the katana folder for quite some time.....It's just too pretty for me to buy though at that price.

I dont personally own any Mcusta knives but a good friend of mine collects JUST Mcusta knives and I know for a fact they are high quality folders and very beautiful imo. Too pretty for my tastes but no doubt make great edc folders for light to medium use and have strong Japanese influences on their designs. If I had an extra $100 to spare I would be all over the Katana folder for sure.

I own several mcustas they're awesome you wont believe it's just a little over a $ 100.00 knife .Along the same lines if you watch ebay Browning has mcusta make them a knife called" Ice storm" I also have a couple of those they have the same F&F the mcustas do and you can get those for ~50-60$

you might also want to check out Seki-Cut, its similar to Mcusta and their line of knives

now to help further this, are you just looking at folders or also fixed blades?

Mscuta makes plenty of knives that are anything but fancy. The MC-1, MC-2 and MC-10 (basically the Browning Ice Storm) are actually pretty plain in regards to blade steel and handle material....VG-10 and aluminum respectively. They are well built and perform. The Mcusta-produced Browning Ice Storm has been discontinued for some time. You can occasional find them on the auction sites or on the Exchange here but they are getting hard to find.

Originally folders only but now have decided that in the future I also want a fixed blade too. Right now I have a CRKT Hissatsu fixed but would like something later that looks a little more traditional Japanese.

I looked online and found the plain Mcusta mentioned here. Good to know they have more than just Gents' knives.

Hello, I'm new in this forum. Hope I didn't mistake the place for this post.

I found this folding kind of "traditional" & "modern" knife:
