Japanese style wraps

I want to get the West System but for now I'm using the thinnest grade of Star-bond. It is a high quality product used for museum restorations, stabilizing stone, etcetera. It is a high end super glue.

I apply it with a q-tip and it just wicks into the paracord. After 3 cycles or so you will reach a saturation point.

I just tested a wrap I did and I simply could not hurt it, at least by hand. I really had a hard time removing it, finally a long acetone soak softened it up enough to take it off.

It comes out clean with no white spots, if you only do a couple of light soaks it won't be very shiny. There is no clean up if you are careful.

The wraps are rock hard when they dry!

I had to remove one once, and it certainly wasn't easy!

Just a thought: If you were worried about bacteria getting caught in there, could you coat the whole thing in clear lacquer? Wouldn't this fill in all of the little nooks while still allowing you to see and feel the cord wrap?

Clear Lacquer on cord wrap doesn't hold up very well and gives an almost dentable finish on the cord...imagine pressing into the cord with your nail. it also turns kinda white if you try to take it in and out of a nicely molded kydex sheath.

What if you soaked it in epoxy before the lacquer? If it's for a kitchen knife would it need a Kydex sheath?

Lacquer is too soft, I think it is used to make waxes. The soaked wraps I make bead water and feel 100% solid, I think anything more would be overkill.

Ya might as well just brush on a coat of epoxy, let dry over night and then brush on another coat so it becomes glossy. There isn't gonna be any bacteria hiding anywhere as the handle will become completely sealed and also waterproof then.
