Japanese Sword Thickness

Having a japanese sword being made for me. HAve the choice of either 6mm or 8mm thickness. What are some suggestions?? Thanks

Usually it's 1/4" (I don't know it in mm).

You mean 6.35 mm or 0.635 "cm".
