I bought this truly amazing Tanto from our resident bad boy Danbo, and man, am I glad I did. The blade was forged by Knight, but was ground by his student Shirey, and I believe the finish, hamon and handle were by Knight, the grind Shirey acheived is perfect however, and the knife is as flawless as any knife Ive owned. My all time favorite Japanese knife.
It's a large 9" double ground, zero edge, upswept tanto blade, which is the traditional, not the americanized configuration to my knowledge. Killer burgendy ray skin with black cord wrap, and, check out the bronze, ENAMELED turtle menukis! And, to top it off, a hamon that is out of this world. Its not heavily etched, rather the blade has a uniform perfect satin finish, and so, under normal light, the hamon is visible, but in yur face vivid, but, when the light hits it, the line is very reminiscient of a Fogg hamon, which is about the highest praise I know how to give. Awesome pullback near the tip as well.
Now, I had a hell of a time photographing it, the handle shots came out nicely, but, no matter what I did, I could not get a satisfactory shot of the overall knife, nor of the hamon, the few shots that showed it, had major reflections, I'm still working on it, and won't rest until I figure it out, but, in the meantime, here are the best pics I do have.
And to think, I only paid $150!
(Yeah right)
