Last evening Jason Knight demonstrated forging and grinding a large blade at the monthly meeting of the Haywood Bladesmithing Association for 46 attendees. We are a relatively new group having been in existence for just six months. So far we have had the following as demonstrators: Bill Wiggins, Len Landrum, Greg Neely, Ronnie Boydston, Burt Foster, and Jason Knight. We meet at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC, and anyone interested in attending should email Mike Honeycutt at haywoodblades@yahoo.com. Put "attention Mike" in the subject line.

Jason always seem to be doing nice things for people. He is a real good dude

Nice line up of people you have had so far

That is a very cool group you have going. and the school looks well set up for it.

North,

Thanks for your post and great pics. Jason did a great job with the demo. He did admit to being a little nervous about being around that many hillbillys, but he seemed to adjust to it just fine!! I am already looking foward to the next meeting.

Jason is a class act that is for sure (just don't tell him i said that). when i was working on my J.S. test knives i called him with a question. he answered then called back a few days later to make sure i understood. then he sent me an example of what i had asked him about. a great guy and teacher.

The Haywood Community College facility has a great set-up for forging. I was lucky enough to attend the first Great Smokey Mountain Symposium there.

It's nice to see pictures of my buddies, Bill Wiggins, JS and Dan Warren, JS, both great makers and great people.

That's what it's all about. Nothing like sharing your talents with other blade afficianados. The mark of a true professional.

here is a knife I got from Dan Warren at the 2008 Blade show when he got his JS

real nice knife and I love the copper but Les won't like the Giraffe bone lol (I do though)

Sounds like a very fortunate area to live in. I would certainly take the opportunity to attend those meetings if it was a reasonable distance to travel.

Those are some nice looking Warren knives Murray.

I've seen a few of Jason's knives and they are extremely nice.

That's a very nice turn-out.
Good job Jason.
Isn't Clyde near Asheville NC and is this the same location as the ABS school?

Kevin,

Yes, Clyde is about 15 minutes west of Asheville. And that is the same facility used for the ABS classes. The demo was held in the grinding area, and they also have a blacksmith shop, as well as class room areas. It is a nice facility for sure.

North,

Maybe superteach will work with you some on your photography. From what I hear, she catches bigger Tarpon!!

Great to see a post about Haywood College again.....looks like things are really taking off down there for you folks. Bill is a big reason why too guys. He is highly active with the ABS and played a key role in bringing the ABS classroom to the east coast. I was an attendee this past March in the 2nd ever "Introduction to Bladesmithing Course" offered at Haywood Community College. They had 6 Bader III grinders all tricked out with VFD 2 HP motors, custom flat platens and serrated contact wheels. In the forging room they had your choice of propane or charcoal style forging, a mess of anvils, tongs, hammers, hydraulic & power hammers and much more.

Thanks for Sharing Pics of Jason's Demo Bill
