Well, I know some guys are into "elegant" and "intricate" --- and I can respect that and appreciate the level of expertise it takes for that kind of fit and finish

But there's something raw in me that really LOVES the big gnarly hunks of steel, especially when it's from a MS and balances like a dream.

I saw this one at Blade but had already spent too much to pick it up, left disappointed that I hadn't seen it first... I got a second chance at it after I got home and promptly sold a few production pieces to get the price back into my range. It just arrived today, and I am very pleased.

(This is my third forged piece -- Raymond Richard Bowie, Matt Lamey Cutter, and this Jason Knight Chopper. I think I will try to avoid this most dangerous "custom knives" forum -- it's safer for my wallet to stick in the "manufacturers area" ;))

Here it is with a 12" ruler, to give you an idea of the size

Sorry for the poor pics, this masterful knife deserves better... Now if I can convince Jason to make a mtching hunter/skinner for the perfect woods "set"

Normally, a knife this size would not interest me. But I like the unusual single quillion, the recurve blade, and the handle. Hell, I like it all! Nice score.

Hope you can get Jason to make that matching hunter for you. That would be cool.

I know that one was haunting your dreams - glad you were able to snag it after all. I'd take this beautiful beast over any machete any day of the week.

I handled that thing at Blade and lo, it was intimidating at many levels!! Great score.

Jason is the master of those big choppers, and I would call that one "elegant"

Congrats indeed.

When you showed your comparison shot next to the ruler, I started laughing out loud. Really.

It's THAT much fun!

Congrats,

Coop

I love the look of that handle. WOW! Does it feel as good as it looks?

Oh yes...

I wish my photography skills were better --- Jason bead blasted the Ironwood for texture (which looks really good as well as being functional.) So it's smooth, but "grippy."

The only thing I was worried about was the lack of a lanyard hole, but after "air swinging" it a bit, there's no danger of it slipping with that substantial swell at the butt of the handle. It feels great.

You are right, haunting my dreams is a great way to put it, LOL.

I'm very new into the custom game, I've been mostly into production pieces. But oh man, the balance and "feel" of some of these pieces (as compared to most of the production pieces I've owned) tend to make me want to cash in my production collection for a few of these pieces. I'm "wading into the water" slowly but surely, trying to learn as I go. I'd like to say thanks to everyone in this forum for the great information --- there's a passion for custom knives that is evident (and contagious).

Congrats on an amazing piece! I know what you mean about hanging around in this forum, it gives you an itch that has to be scratched.

So, are you going to use that bad boy? :D

Oh yes...

(and you helped me get it, thanks ;))

That is awesome, congrats on that one - it looks like it's begging to be used! I'd have to have some 550 cord through that thing holding it in my hand, though. Great score.

Chilling, the skills and eye Jason has just simply chilling. Congrats on a sweet purchase. How are you gonna rig it for carry? Will you be able to bring yourself to carry it?

That knife is amazing light for a blade that size.

Oh yeah, I'll definitely carry it, this one begs to be carried and used.

But as far as to HOW to carry it... It really is huge (not heavy, just long) --- so I think a Dundee rig or shoulder strap is the way to go. I'll probably have to make an entire sheath, but maybe I'll be able to make a frog and strap for the existing sheath -- we'll see...
