Jason Knight HUGE Chopper

Congrats on an extraordinary piece,xaman.
Looks like you've scored The Beast of The Blade Show!

Doug :D

That was the only knife that Jason had left on his table Sunday and frankly, I was very surprised that it lasted that long, much less left the show in his hands. I am insired to try to make something similar now:thumbup::D

But as far as to HOW to carry it... It really is huge (not heavy, just long) --- so I think a Dundee rig or shoulder strap is the way to go. I'll probably have to make an entire sheath, but maybe I'll be able to make a frog and strap for the existing sheath -- we'll see...

Let us know what you settle on for a carrying rig. I've gravitated to just carrying them stuck through my belt, with the stud to keep it from slipping all the way through. But I'm not sure how well that would work with a leather sheath as opposed to a rigid scabbard.

I put it through my belt to try it, but it's too wide to ride comfortably. The sheath is a full 3" wide, and there's just no 3" wide flat spot on my beltline, LOL.

I'm thinking through the frog idea. David Wesner just posted a sweet set-up for one of his camp knives that might have some potential for this rig...

Its hard to grasp how large that blade is from the photo, a traditional sheath of any kind is gonna be hard to manage. A shoulder, chest or back rig may be called for.

The problem with the frog type sheaths on a knife this size is stability, alot of blade/sheath swinging around for only friction to be holding while your in the woods moving around.

Keep us posted!

Jason doesnt call his work knives
he calls em weapons...This is A PRIME example
love it

Well, I haven't measured the scabbard for my big bowie, but it's gotta be getting close to 3" wide too. I don't find this a big deal, personally. Sometimes if I have to, I just skip a belt loop with my belt so the scabbard can ride cross draw just in front of my hip.

The stud on mine is positioned so that the center of gravity of the whole rig is right under my belt. This seems to minimize flopping around, with my belt not uncomfortably snug. But this ease of moving around is also part of the beauty; if it gets in the way of what you're doing, simply nudge it over in position a bit, and it will pretty much stay there until you move it back again. I've carried it all day every day for weeks on end like this, but there is no getting around the fact a knife this big is different than carrying a folder in your pocket. It may just take some getting used to and a bit of dedication. :)

Man oh man ....... thats a beautiful score xaman

I would love to be watching the day you edc that puppy into work :D :D

Nice score, congrats! Lovely knife, nice lines all around. The handle stands out to my eye, makes me wish I could get a few test swings in. :D

Beautiful! That is with out a doubt the best looking Machete I have ever seen. I would love to own that one! If you can't get it done with this knife, it probably can't be done. whether clearning a trail. Building a blind. Or in a tense moment. It would get the job done.

Congrat's, and enjoy.
