Jason Knights Personal Knife (HOGSBANE)

Great pics of your kids and the dogs - they all four look ready for mischief!:D.

Cool, that you actually use the dogs for hunting.

Sadly, Im not able to keep a dog at this time, but I wish I were (I used to be a dog handler (Airforce K9) and we always had a dog) - even more when I view the pics of the dogs here.

I would use the dogs too, but am ambivalent about it and certainly understand your reluctance in regards to running hogs with them, as losing one in a hunting accident would be horrible - imagine going home telling your kids that.

Ive seen a collapsed tunnel system with two 'Dachshund' hunting dogs in it. It was in the winter time and the dogs had been in there for hours when they found them. One was dead from being crushed, suffocated or from exposure right away and the other had had contact with the fox and had clear signs of being bitten. It lived for only a little while after they found it, but died in his owners arms.
He was mumbling all the time 'What will I tell the kids, what will I tell the kids!" as it of course was a family dog. I didnt know the hunters, but it certainly made an impression - as it would on most dog minded people, I imagine.

This was many years ago, but I still remember the now silent, tired and grim hunters standing in a semi-circle around one entrance to the tunnel system guns at the ready.
They stayed till the fox came out, shot it, put that and the dogs in the hole and patted the earth before driving home.

I wouldnt wish that on anybody.

Fantastic pic.

I like that look to some extent, but am not sure, that I would have the ears cropped at all, were the dogs not use for hunting hogs or the like.

Ive seen even more cropped ears than that on Dogos, which IMO is wrong.

Thx Bladescout and thank you for your service

My step son left just yesterday for the Air Force

Tales of hunting dogs are wrought with sad stories and I keep these guys out of harms way these days

Thx again for the comments

Here a few pics I snapped in Afghanistan (wasnt K9 myself by that time though):

The Brits have two kinds of dogs; some bomb and general search dogs (those other than the handler could walk, handle, be in the general vicinity with without getting eaten etc) and then they have security dogs, that nobody but the handler could get near - guess which type this one is!

'You can run, but cannot hide!' (I especially like this pic - the dog hunched over and you can almost sense the speed)

Anyway, as this is the custom knife section: Can anybody tell me where this style with the 'hump' or reverse clip originated?
I have seen it on some gorgeous custom American and European Bowies (Markman etc).
I suppose its moden knife lines...

I am lucky to have been on when you posted. It is a BIG blade and I look forward to having it in hand. Best part about this Knight blade is since he has used it I will not be worried about using it.

Again thank you for your service and I love working dogs so thank you for the pics

I used to work my dogs a ton more and hunted them pretty hard but now are day consists of me getting up early before work going to gym than I come home and run them in my woods for 45 minutes on a trail that is a big loop

The rest of there day is letting themselves out a dog door into a fairly large fenced area that is in the woods and sleeping in everyone's beds :)

As for the Harpoon Clip style Bowies

Everyone has an opinion but the truth is the 2 guys that made this design famous and really started that distinctive Harpoon Clip Style in recent times are Jason Knight & Adam DeRosier. These 2 perfected the look and many artists have incorporated this design into there work

Most notable and one of my favorite makers my friend Sam Lurquin.

That's an amazing piece. You can see both strength and elegance, well done.

Thanks Doug C.

Greg, trust me when Jason refinishes a blade it is as perfect as the first day it left his hands. With that said beat the snot out of it. :)

Every day I carry a Micarta handled Founders Bowie in my messenger bag that is always in my car office etc.

Thank you, Sir.

Also thanks for info about the Harpoon style and from whence it originated.

Small wonder that I like the knife style - the three blade smiths mentioned are amongst my favourite knife makers.

All might not be optimal in the World these days, but we are fortunate to have a plethora of fine knives to admire...and in some cases even purchase.

What a nice flow, and sense of style. That is one monster! I love it.
David

That man has style! I am kicking myself for not checking this forum EVERYDAY. I see it is time to start.

It has arrived and I will tell you I was a bit worried about it's size, but this is the most nimble blade of this size I have ever held. I will not offend Jason with poor pictures of the knife, but I will say that I could not be more happy with this knife!!

Thanks Jason & Joe.

Greg thank you :)

We love the enthusiasm

Congrats on a special blade

Take pics :) we love pics
