Great pics of your kids and the dogs - they all four look ready for mischief!
.
Cool, that you actually use the dogs for hunting.
Sadly, Im not able to keep a dog at this time, but I wish I were (I used to be a dog handler (Airforce K9) and we always had a dog) - even more when I view the pics of the dogs here.
I would use the dogs too, but am ambivalent about it and certainly understand your reluctance in regards to running hogs with them, as losing one in a hunting accident would be horrible - imagine going home telling your kids that.
Ive seen a collapsed tunnel system with two 'Dachshund' hunting dogs in it. It was in the winter time and the dogs had been in there for hours when they found them. One was dead from being crushed, suffocated or from exposure right away and the other had had contact with the fox and had clear signs of being bitten. It lived for only a little while after they found it, but died in his owners arms.
He was mumbling all the time 'What will I tell the kids, what will I tell the kids!" as it of course was a family dog. I didnt know the hunters, but it certainly made an impression - as it would on most dog minded people, I imagine.
This was many years ago, but I still remember the now silent, tired and grim hunters standing in a semi-circle around one entrance to the tunnel system guns at the ready.
They stayed till the fox came out, shot it, put that and the dogs in the hole and patted the earth before driving home.
I wouldnt wish that on anybody.
Fantastic pic.
I like that look to some extent, but am not sure, that I would have the ears cropped at all, were the dogs not use for hunting hogs or the like.
Ive seen even more cropped ears than that on Dogos, which IMO is wrong.
