Jaw bone???

A girl my brother used to date. She wasn't pretty, but she had a pretty nice personality. He'll be want'in to kick my butt when he sees this.
 
I can attest to it's not being from a boar, at least not any I've come across. This jaw is big, thick, dense and heavy. Never saw a giraffe jaw. There was a piece of giraffe leg bone in the same box.

Hey Ryan you out there? It was in your stuff. Know what it is???
 
Giraffe should be longer and more pointed. Boar should have more vertical area in the mandible area.

Looks like an herbivore of some sort. Possibly a juvenile walrus??

I Believe that there is a very weathered lower mandible of a wolf!

That is walrus jaw bone.... Great material..... You've got to slice it just right for some nice handle material. Looks a lot like oosik when finished...
 
The only problem with it is the nerve hole. I have carved tons of it. It looks like it is from a bull. It most likely came from St Lawrence Island and was taken form a walrus by a Siberian Yupik hunter hundreds of years ago.

Got a drawing or instruction on slicing it??? I don't think that I would cut it up. I think it would be cool,to display a knife on it at a show.:confused::confused:

Can't say as I have, but I bet if you helped Jack on the horse, you'd help Jack off the horse! Say, if you ever cut open that jaw post some pix, maybe save me a small piece.

Did you ever find that etcher handle you gave me? It's rolled up in felt and bound with the big red rubber band. I can't find it anywhere.
