JB Moore Saddlehorn

I recently received this knife in a trade-a large JB Moore Saddlehorn in D2- It is quite a handfull at 4 & 3/4 inches closed. Great fit and finish with beautiful redbone handles:

A question for the folks here. Is the extra pin there due to the length of this knife or because of the pattern itself?
