Jeff, a while back there was a thread about you recieving a Sebenza to carry for a while and try it out. I couldn't find the tread but I was wondering if you are still carrying it. If you are still carrying it what are your thoughts. If not, why did you stop carrying it. I am just interested in some honest non biased review of the knife from a hard use perspective.

If I missed the follow up thread please just direct me to it.

Thanks.

First let me say the Sebenza is a very high quality, hard-use knife. But I carried it for 3 months and hated it. I didn't like the carry style or the hollow grind. I passed it on to a friend of mine who recently retired from FBI in Las Vegas.

I was looking at one of those and an emerson, my wife said she'll get me one or the other for our anniv. That french video I posted on that guy who did a review on the 5 a few threads ago did a compelling review on the emerson too, so kinda liking it, or the zero tolerance knives. Something with a clip and can look and be passed over norm like a pen, and other clip on items, (Jeff!!! I want an Izula Folder!!!) always trying to diversify and carry whats comfortable, and whats functional. Trying to find someone who has a Seb so I can see how I like it, but on the OP that was linked too, I was peeked to see it was in here, weird. Guess some people have a similar thought pattern to me :) hahaha. Jeff how was the weight on the Seb?

EDIT:
Oh and I love how you don't bash on other manufacts! You're a good guy! But Q, since I would trust your opinion enough to ask, I am leaning more towards an Emerson for quality, and long term functionality, like gear bags, always searching for the better and better fit. Used to cut boxes, defense knife, etc. A good knife that can last and stand up to hard abuse? Have you used Emerson knives? Views jeff that you can share? Maybe share on other knives? I have spyders and sogs, bokers, and a bunch of other knives, I tried the Cold Steel AK's but was very very heavy, and found wasn't too pleased with its quality, but maybe it was just that one blade? I was thinking maybe a kabar mule or something? I don't know. Always looking to see what others suggest, especially someone like you :) any input would be greatly appreciated!

We all love the ESEE honesty about everything. But i don't personally think that means we have the right to try to ask them to function as our own personal answer man.

It also would disregard the wealth of honest and knowledgeable people available througout the BF website and its many forums.

Hope you don't mind my two cents.

LS,

Funny you should ask me about Emerson. When I gave the Sebenza to my FBI friend he called me later that night and said he just coudn't accept me giving him the Sebenza without giving me a knife in return. So, he asked me to come back down to his office and he gave me his Emerson that he had been carrying. I used it for a while then passed it on to another LEO. I liked the knife ok, but still was not exactly what I wanted. I'm back to carrying my Benchmade 941 right now. I like flat grinds and big blades.

Don't mind that at all but I think we sort of all consider ourselves a family around here, thus the reason a lot of people ask questions not related to ESEE knives. As you said, there are a lot of people on other forums that can answer these questions also. In fact, I would guess that most people on these forums far outweigh me when it comes to truly knowing knives. I just don't consider myself a knife nut. They're just tools to me.

Ron: Well I wouldn't ask if he hadn't posted directly about his experience with the knife, it was one of many I am considering, and my wife told me, I am such a girl. Why not buy them all or barrow them all, and see which I like best, and sell the rest or, after barrowing a few, make an educated buy. Its what I did with my Esee knives, I was involved in a stupid situation I was NOT prepared for, and I expected way to much of my BM Grip knife, no knowledge of even how to make a fire, or what tinder was, and etc. I was naked to say the least, if a friend wasn't educated as well equiped with his gear, rat cut co knives being some of them, would've been up a creek. Long story short, I made fun of his overly paranoid tendencies, his gungho survivalist mentality, training, and constant need to learn and try more and effective means of just doing things outside our comf zone to survive. One of the things I did was ask to see his knives after we got back, he was in fact still using and destroying them. Instead of cashing in the unconditional warranty, he finally put them on display in his place, well worn, well deserving of retirement and being replaced with new same versions. He never cashed in the warranty, he just bought more knives. I said why the first time? Cause as all we are in beginning of anything, we know nothing or little. He said his Esee knives NEVER failed him, and there was NO manufacturer defect. I said aren't there more expensive and cooler knives? He said there are knives people buy to keep in a display case, and there are knives that are used and abused. To put into words I'd understand, he said its like having a 68 camaro, or a 55 300sl gullwing. say you put a new ls7 from a newer corvette into there, the camaro say may have been a tired old mule, but with a 7.0L fuelinjected monster in there, and a larger turbo, it will HAUL, as well if you reloc the fire wall, dist weight, add entirely new suspension and a art mor chassis, etc etc etc. Or the 55 benz guller, you swap a 6.1L new crate hemi, or build an open semi tube front with a 9.0L v10...its like you are spending and spending and spending. Than you don't wanna use them so much or you keep them trailered...never fulling the intentive and inheirant design. And purpose. TO DRIVE.

I only asked Jeffs op, cause I respect him, he had the knife on hand, and people like him, or tdd, or many others? Have knives I do not. So, if I respect them, know that they will give an honest reply and help me learn? Why not ask? Its not that I dont feel like asking others, its just it was a convenient post. He already started the topic. If I was at cars and coffee and some guy asked me about a clients built enzo or porsche cgt or etc I've built? I'll answer novelty questions, if someone is asking me in depth how to swap a LS3 into a 240sx or rx7, or etc, and want specifics, designs, etc. I will charge them, knowledge is money. But thats recreational. It isn't survival. If I knew as much as most people on here, and or could live and survive in the jungle and make beer come out of vines by chopping them with my junglas? I'd gladly tell others whatever and everything I could. Cause like a knife and a fire arm, both could serve to save ones life, defend others, or used in misc means to survive and affect an outcome of ones situation and chances to make it alive out of something. Jeff and many others = in the know. Me = not so much lol.

Jeff: Yah I've been really stuck trying to figure everything out, but I guess instead of getting a few other things I've been saving up for, I may have to just buy all the knives I am interested in, than try them for a little, than sell off what I end up not liking the most.

This guy has done a number of reviews, like on your 5 knife, but he also does emerson, sog, zero tolerance, etc. So I've been liking them, as well their open and deploy characteristics, I like a big handle for assured grip, and a bigger blade, but for utility for work and etc, a skinnier lighter knife would be my preferance. On another note, my wife got me a trainer knife, rubberized and carved into it Mouse Cutlery lol, and this airsoft Magpul folding pocket gun, toy thing, really nifty, has a glock looking top interior slide inside. And she got me a cute little airsoft vest....im not feeling the humor lol.

Just wanted to say not fan boying or anything, but I really love your knives. Effective, cost minded, dependable, attention to detail from creators who know a thing or two. Its why every chance I get I flaunt and flash your company left and right, from trails to walking paths, I've even shown it to a few officers lol. Funny thing is I have been buying the 3 more than anything else, and took Pelton advice about giving a knife to people here and there, and having a backup. I gave an officer an extra milspec I just bought lol, he was so impressed with it I had to give it to him to replace his worn out ____________, knife. He ended up having an extra pelican flashlight, big sucker, led, 190 lumens I think? But owning your knives has really opened up a different part of my life, helped me meet new people I guess I'd wouldn't normally really meet, and up until now all I did was stay indoors, and my only out door activities were automotive related. So thanks, you dont make cheap crap, and you dont skimp on interacting with your customer base, knowledgeable, honest, and stand up guys you and mike and etc all around. (when youre sober at least lol) , guys like you really are awesome.

To everyone else, I respect anyone who goes out and does what they love, who helps others learn and grow, and are positive and an asset/testament to how great people can really be.

Wow...that was long. I quit.

... I'm back to carrying my Benchmade 941 right now. I like flat grinds and big blades.

Go figure. I'm a fan of Sebenza's, and I love Benchmade's 94x series also. My current favorite FFG knife is a G10 Endura, so I get your point about big, flat-ground blades. They just work. Oh well, just waiting to Mr. Izula folder to show up now.

i am not put off by grinds personally, as long as they dont look nasty ie nightmare grind, if i can keep it sharp i am happy :) FFG, hollow, convex, scandi, its all good. i love the way my sebenza carries personally, but to each their own. at least you have a knife you are happy to carry

or the HEST folder that we just completed design on with Tom.

tease!
be interesting to see a concept drawing on it, though.
