My good friend, Jeff, has caught the bug. After helping me for years, building forges, a new shop, grinders and the like he finally forged and ground his first blade.
This was his very first attempt at grinding and he was a bit nervous about it; Probable because there were seven accomplished smiths standing around watching him
.
He mounted his blade in the bevel clamp, set the bubble and he was ready. I gave him a couple of basic instructions about using the jig and he was on his own.
He wasn't fast but his grinds were true and by the time he was finished grinding; he was hooked.
"I want to make a companion knife to go with this one, is that possible"?
You bet it is, Jeff.
I designed and built this jig so people did not have to spend years, "getting the hang of grinding"
It can be done in an afternoon.
Regards, Fred
