Jennifer Wilbanks found alive!!!

ABC just announced Wilbanks had made up the whole story to cover up her having cold feet regarding her wedding which was originally scheduled for today!!:D :D :D
Her original story was that the kidnappers had CUT HER HAND during the snatch!!

I think this one should go to Whine and Cheese.

Great!!:mad::rolleyes::barf:

In the meantime, the cops put her once husband to be through the wringer.

They announced on national TV last night, that even though he'd passed the lie detector test, they still thought he was lying, and had murdered her, and they had much more investigation to do on him.:barf:

What a way to start out. If that guy is smart, he's running for his life, AWAY!!

I'm not one to get lawsuit crazy like we see so much of lately but I think this guy ought to be compensated for that in some way. Having "we think you are a murderer" thrown in my face on national television based on guesswork or the belief that I was lying would royally piss me off. If it were me, I think I'd be suing everyone involved if these comments were actually made.

As For Jennifer Wilbanks- just what is wrong with a "Dear John" letter? I hear they worked well for years...

Cold feet ? I can understand that when I found it was to be a BIG affair. She had sent out 600 invitations !!!

It was on the national segment of Fox news here in AZ at 6:15PM yesterday evening.
The poor guy was just standing there while they made these accusations in front of the camera, and tried him in the media. You could see the tears running down his face.

He knew he was about to be another victim of LE screwover.:barf:

I agree with you, I'm not one to sue anyone over anything either. But this? I'd sue everyone involved!!

What I don't get is that her husband-to-be seems like a really good guy, from what they've shown on TV. And he still plans to marry her. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would at least postpone the wedding in order to get this woman some kind of psychological help.

Off-subject... what's up with her eyes? She looks perpetually startled.

Maybe a bad face lift?

Half the people in Hollywood run around with a similar look, like someone just goosed them, for that very same reason. ;)

I certainly hope that the fiancee sues the agencies and individuals involved. In fact, I'd gladly donate to a fund to finance that. I am sick and tired of our law enforcement trying people in the media.

But, even beyond that, law enforcement agencies need to realize that when they do this and end up dead wrong, it seriously erodes what little respect the public has left for law enforcement in general.

I once read an interesting article about the consequences of police moving from "walking a beat" to patrolling it in a vehicle. The author took the position that this was a twofold problem, that it had the undesireable effects of both distancing the public from the police and keeping the officers from really getting to know the people of the community. The author claimed this had the effect of making the population generally suspicious and distrusting of officers and that it made the officers view the people of their community in a more non humanizing manner- as a collection of perps, suspects and possibles. I find it a very interesting POV that definetely makes some valid points. And of course, there are always exceptions.

I once had a similar theory involving neighbors and garages.

Ok, I had some trouble explaining myself, I hope it was understood.

And Larry S., apologies for the hijack! gollnick's comments brought the above to mind and I thought I would share it.

Sue. Oh yeah, give the newsies even more to play with.

Who went to the National News Media with this case in the first place? And so this is what they ended up with. Impossible to do an investigation without every possible lead being second, third and fourth guessed and then being reported accordingly in the press.

And so it goes as Administrators, Politicians, Community Leaders and everyone else gets involved in the Public's DEMAND for information and a resolution to the case. So much for Detectives being able to hold their cards close to their chest until more information is available. Public's just gotta know and right now too.

And so who was actually trying this case in the Media? The Public themselves. Forget about the Blind Lady with the scales when there's a camera and a story around. IMHO takes the place of Justice or even an effective investigation.

And so you can't sue the General Public, so that's out.
Can't sue the News Media.....Freedom of Speech issues and such.
Can't sue the victim. Well, the husband could, but seems unlikely.
Can't sue the family for seeking help in a kidnapping.

Wonder who's going to end up with the muddy end of the stick in this case.................? As always..........................

Media involvement presents terrible problems in all kinds of criminal investigations. I feel sorry for everyone involved. The police feel great pressure to act aggressively. If they don't, and it turns into another Peterson, Hacking, etc. case, then they'll suffer for not being aggressive enough. I don't consider this story to be worthy of a lawsuit. I feel terribly sorry for the fiance, but the police were working with the best information they had. I think Jennifer should be charged with something since it seems that she knew about the investigation and lied during initial discussions with the police. Many cases do lead back to family members (or fiances). I always laugh about the lie detector debates. I would NEVER agree to my client getting one even if they swore their innocence to me. I don't believe refusing one is indicative of guilt.

As an aside, I had an experience awhile back where I attended a charity event with a person who had some media appeal. Due to a ton of miscommunication between the club putting on the event and this gentleman, the man was accused of walking out without paying his bill. Nothing could be further from the truth, the problem was that the bar was taking patrons word for it that their drinks were on this gentleman's tab. The bartenders never asked this gentleman for his approval. They simply extended free drinks all night to 20 some odd people who weren't even with our group. As a matter of fact, the gentleman being accused never even provided the club with his credit card. He simply paid as he received drinks from the waitress from his little corner of the bar. Anyhow, it got much worse from there when people in the bar ("fans") decided to involve themselves in the disagreement. Before I knew it, I was advising my friend to remain silent for a variety of reasons including fear of the press catching on and distorting his words, too many "fans" around trying to protect my friend with false, uninvited, and unnecessary alibis, etc. It was a terrible mess. I figured it would be better to remove him from all of the fanfare and deal with the matter later when everything was calmer. I gave basic information to the police, and they released him. The next morning I awoke to newspaper articles about this gentleman that were shockingly distorted. The police provided the press with a mini conference stating only the accuser's side of the story because that's all the information they were given. Remember, I advised my friend to remain silent. This happens everyday in the press. If the accused chooses to remain silent, you will only hear one side of the story. A day or two later, the bar owner apologized to my friend, and they both worked together to resolve what was truly a misunderstanding. I never read any articles clarifying the real facts. My friend was told, by his bosses, to keep his mouth shut about it and let it go away. He was very lucky to keep his job.

I saw it on the news this morning. Just one of those things that make you say, "What the. . . . .."

I'm amazed that none of the law enforcement agencies involved aren't going to press charges on her. Maybe due to her coming from money or that they understand that she's in dire need of immediately mental health care. *shrugs shoulders*

I believe it's contacts.

After this little ordeal, it surely couldn't be that she's walking around with her eyes wide open ! :D

That's been covered. She must have problems. She'll end up talking to experts, blah, blah, blah.....

If there were 600 people coming to my wedding, I'd be outa here too! And I'd have stayed gone until they all left...

Looking at her, and her fiancee...they don't even look like they would click. If I was him I'd tell her to keep on running, don't stop at New Mexico, keep going south into Mexico and find herself a nice Mexican guy. He looks like a brainiack which is good. Stud? naaaa.

They're going to have to pay for that wedding! And the husband was probably already eyeballing the women in the wedding party for one as a possible replacement.

I think that she could have done just as well by going on the Jerry Springer Show, and announcing that she was going to dump her honey. :D
